Q: 1. Is this stand air cushioned?

A: This stand is not air cushioned.

Q: 2. hi.. i have go pro hero.. but i dont have this monopad y et.. can i use this under sea water and other camera like sony action cam?

A: I have used this monopod underwater extensively for 2 years. Just make sure to rinse, clean, and dry it after taking into seawater. I don't know if it fits sony action cams.

Q: 3. How does this stand compare to the Matthews Reverse stand? I can see the MERF packs smaller, and the Reverse Stand holds a little more weight. Neither of those issues are deciding factors for me. Are there any other differences? I'm curious why people picked one over the other? I'm leaning towards getting the MERF because their max weights are so similar, but with the wider base it seems like the Reverse Stand should have more advantage than what the spec shows.

A: It's all about saving space for travel. If you're not worried about cramming into a roller bag for airplane travel, or attaching your stands to a backpack, then by all means buy another stand. I love the fact that I can strap mine to the outside of the case my LED panels travel in. Given the choice between the MERF and the regular reverse stand, I can't understand why anyone would buy the regular reverse stand because both stands have skinny reverse-folding legs. The regular reverse folding stand isn't offering much more weight carrying capacity. If you're concerned about weight capacity and stability more than you are concerned about collapsed size, then just buy a more traditional kit stand. The Matthews Medium Duty kit stand is in the same price range. If you really need extra weight capacity and stability, check out the Matthews Beefy Baby.

Q: 4. Can these easily hold a dimmer and DTap battery hanging from it?

A: These are rated for 9lbs. I use mine with a lot more than a DTap battery and its fine.

Q: 5. Does this quik pod have a screw mount at the bottom of the handle - so that I can attach it to a table dolly for example?

A: There is no screw mount at the bottom of the handle on the Quik Pod ULTRA Extendable Monopod.

Q: 6. Does this model come with a smartphone mount, or do you need to buy one separately?

A: It does not come with a smart phone mount.

Q: 7. Will this hold the alien bee 400?

A: MERF Mini has a 9 lb capacity I would think you may have to use caution outside if you are adding a soft box to it. WIND

Q: 8. What is the actual footprint (circumfrence). of this light stand???

A: Footprint Radius 20 (leg support arms extended to be parallel to floor)) 35 from leg tip to leg tip

Q: 9. Is a sandbag still needed when using this ?

A: It is good practice to use a sandbag on any light stand for added safety, even with the Matthews MERF Mini Extendable Reverse Stand.

Q: 10. Will this stand hold an Aputure 120D ii with an Aputure Light Dome ii?

A: Full size light dome is pushing it. Would recommend a heavier duty stand. Works well with the light dome mini though.

I bought the Matthews MERF stand to replace a Norman stand that had the older 3/8 stud attachment. I wanted a compact but sturdy stand with the 5/8 attachment used by today's lights. I mainly use the stand in a small home studio, but also wanted to be able to easily take it on location. I use the stand with the equally compact Godox AD100 and AD200 strobes, plus occasionally a larger Neewer LED light. The stand is sturdy even with a 41 umbrella attached.

Although I generally use the stand with the legs angled, I like having the option of setting the legs flat on the floor so it will fit in among furniture. I also prefer the brake-style locks to set height rather than the clamp-style locks used on most other stands in this class. It makes setting up the stand easier since I have a bit of arthritis in my hands.
