Tiffen 77mm Warm Soft/fx 2 Filter
  • Product Code: ga1328
  • Availability: In Stock

$359.97 $503.96

The Tiffen 77mm Warm Soft/FX 2 Filter can be applied to create a warm cast over an entire image while purposely reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits, or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

The warming effect of this filter can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. This filter's overall coloration reflects a mired shift value of +45.

This filter has a grade of 2. Grades of 1/2, 1, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. will this work with my factory standard zoom (for 5Dmark3) Canon 24-70mm lens?

A: If you own the original Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L EF USM lens, or the new Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM Lens, B&H # CA24704LIS, both use 77mm filters and would work with the Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter listed above. However, the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens, B&H # CA247028LII, uses 82mm filters, and would not be compatible with the above filter.

Q: 2. Hello, I did read a review telling that when using a IR/UV Cut filter on Wide Angle Lenses the image can be compromised: the interference varies with the angle of incidence of the light on the glass. This renders this filter unusable with wide-angle and even normal focal lenses, resulting in a greenish gradient from the center to the corners. - this was posted for the 72mm version of an IR/UV Cut filter of another brand.- Q: Did someone else has this problem on Full Frame & APS-C DSLRs with Wide Angle Lenses like 16mm with THIS Tiffen W77IR filter?Thank you very much!

A: Hi HD Cam T,I purchased this filter to correct a known IR contamination defect in the Sony EX-1 camcorder. Black suits turn different shades of brown depending on their material without the filter. An orchestra of black suits will look like everyone is wearing a different shade of off black tuxes. But some will be true black. I only use the filter when I need it. I manually white balance the camera when using the IR filter. The image has a green cast if you do not white balance. You also loose about a half an f stop with the filter. Not a perfect fix for my camera but it is the only one I have found.

Q: 3. Considering this filter for the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens, so vignetting should not be an issue for a telephoto. However, lack of front threads or provision for a lens hood is an issue. Is there a solution?

A: Hey Danny I haven't found a solution for a good, but never look hard after a solution either. I use it with my L series zooms and I can't never use lens hood with it. It is one of the smallest nd out there but still not small enough. Hope it helps

Q: 4. Hi I use 5D markiii ,I bought this ND, it only can shoot nature , it shoot people pics too?thanks

A: The TIffen VND filter provides you with 2 to 8 stops of light control. You can use this to limit the light entering your lens/camera in order to do long exposures during the day, or you can use it to limit light entering your camera during the bright sun in order to shoot low apertures for a shallow depth of field.

Q: 5. What is the filter factor for Tiffen 812 warming filter? Can I use canon software to warm up skin tone instead of buying this filter? If yes, how much correction in software will I need to mimic the effect of this filter?

A: The filter factor for the Tiffen 812 is 1/3 stop

Q: 6. Is this only for use with black and white IR film? Will it work with a mirrorless UV/IR digital camera?

A: This filter will allow all IR light to pass, but will block all light in the visual spectrum. It will work with IR film or a camera that has been converted to sense IR light only.

Q: 7. without front threads, what lens cap can I use this filter?

A: I suggest using one of the Op/Tech Hood Hats as a cover: http://bhpho.to/1w9ZAZT

Q: 8. Does the 52mm fit on my 18-55mm Nikon D5600 lens?

A: You can use the lens to filter size tool on the Tiffen website to determine this information: https://tiffen.com/pages/filter-collection

Q: 9. How many stops will this filter give me compared to the 58CP filter?"

A: This Tiffen 72mm Variable Neutral Density Filter can reduce exposure from between 2 stops to 8 stops; the Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter will reduce exposure about 1.2 stops.

Q: 10. Whats the outer diameter for the 82mm VND?

A: Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter has a 98mm outer diameter.

Happy with everything I've got from PolarPro over the years. Quality glass that performs and holds up well. This softens that harshly sharp image you get on digital cameras.
