The 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount from Rokinon is a manual focus, manual aperture, ultra-wide angle prime lens compatible with full-frame & APS-C format mirrorless digital cameras. With APS-C sensors it provides a 93.9° angle of view which translates into a 35mm format focal length equivalency of 21mm. A maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light shooting and provides shallow depth of field. With extra-low dispersion, aspherical and hybrid aspherical lens elements, chromatic aberrations are minimized and sharp, color-accurate images are the result. UMC lens coating facilitates even light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare. The minimum focus distance for this lens is 11".

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How exactly does the focus confirm work with the nikon version? Being a manual lens, does that mean when you're focusing the lens and looking through the viewfinder, the focus confirm dot will light up when focus is achieved?

A: Exactly like that. On my D5000 the focus confirm is a black bottom right corner, and becomes a green circle when focus is achieved. On my D800, I get an arrow telling me which way to spin focus (if the lens is viewed from above) to get correct focus. Neither camera needed manual adjustment of focus confirm, and appears to be correct 100% of the time, even at minimum focus on 36mp images off of the D800. Nikon's higher end cameras, including the D800, do focus confirm even for old film lenses rather accurately, but older models (and especially lower end models) like my D5000 do rather shoddy focus confirm unless a chipped lens like this one is attached. Beyond focus confirm, this 14mm does accurate metering (on both D5000 and D800, though D800 meters even with my 1976 80-200mm f4.5), accurate EXIF data (14mm and aperture), and works with lightroom's downloadable samyang (AKA rokinon/bower/etc) 14mm distortion and vignette corrections.Overall, super pleased with the lens, though it's worth checking corner sharpness to make sure you got an even copy, as many customers have received a copy that was either soft (and this lens is nothing if not razor sharp), or shifted to one corner or another, as their bottom right is significantly worse/better than their top left, etc etc

Q: 2. I'm planing on using this lens with a Nikon D-750 to shoot the Milky Way, is the infinity ring very accurate to focus at night, or do I have to do anything especial to accurately focus?

A: Use live view to zoom in on a bright star or planet, infinity should be a good starting point for this lens, but I find that mine is usually a touch below infinity. Take a few test shots and zoom in on some of the brighter stars to make sure everything is sharp and the colors look correct (out of focus will look more blue than white).

Q: 3. How do you change the aperature on this lens if you can't do it in camera?

A: The lens has a manual aperture ring. You need to physically turn it to adjust the aperture.

Q: 4. Is this lens made for FX camera?

A: Yes

Q: 5. Does this lens have a clicked or de-clicked aperture ring ? Thanks!

A: The lens comes with a clicked aperture ring. It clicks once from F 2.8 to 4 After that it clicks in 1/2 stop clicks moving up to F 22

Q: 6. Will this work with my Nikon D5100? I've made the mistake before and I am not looking to repeat it

A: Yes. It is compatible with both full frame and APS-C. Your camera is an APS-C. Full frame lenses on APS-C work fine but do have a crop factor.

Q: 7. Can the petal hood be removed (and does it have filter rings)? I would love to use this for underwater photography, but I would need to attach the dome port to something.

A: Disregard the first comment no to both!

Q: 8. What type of filter does this lens use? I don't see a front element size listed and the picture doesn't show a gel filter slot.

A: Does not have a filter slot but is one of my sharpest prime and zoom lenses with super depth of field at f8 even though my other lenses are Canon L lenses. I am completely satisfied with this lens and on my Canon EOS 5DsR with 50mp, I cannot see any color fringing at 10x magnification.

Q: 9. Is this lens compatible with an Canon 6D? (Fullframe)

A: Yes, it is a EF mount as opposed to ef-s. I am very happy with what I capture with this lens on my 5d3. Great for stars and landscapes.

Q: 10. Do I need to buy an adapter for my Sony a7ii?

A: It fits just fine. However, be aware that this is a manual lens, and that includes focus. I found it a challenge to get the right focus on the small LCD screen on back of both my a6000 and a7RII. Sony's focus magnification feature does not work with Rokinon lenses. Once you get it dialed in, the lens is pretty decent.

Not much to it, set to infinity and go. Manual everything but it's really not difficult at this fixed focal length. I loved shooting with it!

I've only had this a few weeks so I may update this review but so far I really like this lens. It's manual focus only which I discovered after the fact. But at 279.00, the alternative was the 1600.00+ Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. It feels solid - more than I expected for this price. The focus and aperture rings are well made and the few images I've produced are sharp. Looking forward to some Milky Way and/or meteor shots in the future - that will be the true test of this lens for me. The image below was taken with a Nikon D800E.

I'm no professional and wanted a cost effective lens that I'll enjoy shooting landscapes and nightscapes with on my backcountry trips, this thing exceeded expectations! The customer service rep on B&H chat quickly answered my questions and made it super easy to purchase with confidence. It's fully manual which for me adds to the fun and process but takes a little getting used to. It feels solid and well made. If you're on a budget but enjoy shooting everything from the Milky Way to extreme close ups of your pets face then you will have great fun with this lens.

I own and love a nice set of Canon L-series lenses and was somewhat reluctant to even try this lens after reading reviews about quality issues. Trying this lens changed my attitude instantly. This lens is compact and light (compared to L-series ones, so you may think different) and the optical quality is simply amazing. Mine is sharp from corner to corner even at f/2.8, shows practically no chromatic aberration nor noticeable coma.
I also used it for city shots in the narrow streets of Amsterdam and results were excellent. However, city scapes or motives with straight lines require distortion correction, which works great with the default profile in Lightroom CC.
Over the past year, this lens has seen about the same use as my Canon L ones, making this one my "best bang for the buck" lens.

I used this lens for astro-photography and wide landscape shots. I compared it side-by-side to Canon's 14mm L series lens. Honestly, this Rokinon is sharper and has much less chromatic aberrations.

The only downside to this lens, unlike the Canon, is its relatively intense distortion. (This is why you pay $2000 for the Canon) This will be noticeable when shooting horizontal landscape lines and cannot be fully corrected. But if you're planning on shooting the stars/milky-way, then it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Can't complain about the build quality. It's light and relatively small. Very easy to handle too.

Just bought this lens, and was pleasantly suppressed. I use this on my Canon 5D MK IV and a Canon D70 and there were no issues. Sense it has a permanent hood they also sent a great hood cap. I'm a Commercial Photographer and shoot various themes. And for the price how can you go wrong. Long term customer with B&H, never disappointed.

I purchased this lens for my first attempt at photographing the milky way...unfortunately, my first opportunity was cancelled by an early snow storm. I have taken a number of pictures in daylight and find the optics to be extremely crisp right to the edges of the image. Purchasing the model with the AE chip is a must if you want to have your settings recorded in the EXIF, and the friendly focus chip is invaluable.
