Q: 1. I recently purchased a Sony a6000 and would like an e-mount adapter for my Nikon lenses. I have a Nikkor 18-200 1:3.5-5.6 G ED DX lens (no aperture ring) and a Nikkor 70-200 1:28 G ED lens (no aperture ring) as well as a Micro Nikkor 200 m 1:4 D lens (with aperture ring) and a Nikkor 1:2.8 D 20mm (with aperture ring). Is there an adapter that will accommodate both types of lenses? Which adapters would you recommend for these lenses?

A: Since not all of your lenses are G lenses, I would not advise you to use this particular Nikon F mount to Sony E mount adapter. I suggest the Voigtlander adapter, which will enable to use the manual aperture ring on the 200mm f/1.4D lens, and will enable to you to control the aperture speed of your G lenses through the camera body. Please note however, that automatic lens functions will not be retained with the use of this adapter, such as autofocus or auto exposure: http://bhpho.to/1jwxfRW

Q: 2. As a Nikon D800 videographer I'm thinking to migrate to the new Sony A7S II keeping my lenses. Will I be able to change on the go aperture and focus (not continuous, just by pressing the button)? Thanks!

A: You can manually focus and change the aperture while recording. But there is not auto-focus connection to the camera. So there is no pressing the button involved. Note: I'm using this on a Sony A6000 and Sony NEXCAM camcorder - both have smaller APS-C sensors (aka DX) than the A7S II (FX - like the Nikon D800). I cannot confirm if you will get vignetting or not with the full-frame Sony A7 series.

Q: 3. Will this adapter retain exif LENS data? even just what lens is mounted? I know AF is out of the picture, but I don't see anything regarding exif data.

A: yes you get full EXIF info with this adapter, AF is slow.

Q: 4. Will this adapter work with Sony a5000?

A: I am using it on a Sony a6000 and it works great. So I would guess it should be fine on the a5000

Q: 5. Will this control the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Nikon's aperture?

A: Yes, the Metabones Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter (Matte Black) is able to control the aperture in the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Nikon.

Q: 6. I'm trying to find the correct adapter to use this lens: Nikon AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens on a Sony A6000. Is this the correct adapter? Are there other options? Thanks!

A: This is the right adapter for your Nikon G lenses. I had already bought an earlier Fododiox adapter before this one but it worked only with older Nikon lenses with manual aperture settings. That was the reason I bought this new adapter for G lenses, because you can dial in the aperture manually using the adapter's markings. It will also work with the older Nikon non-Ai, Ai, or AiS lenses. You have to know how to use it, because the markings do not specify the actual aperture values. The markings are F(widest) . 2 . 3 . 4 up to 8(smallest). Each number is equivalent to one stop. The dot in between the numbers can be the equivalent to a half-stop (i.e., 3.5, 4.5, 6.3 etc). From one dot to another dot is also equivalent to one stop. When using with a G lens, you use the adapter markings to adjust the aperture manually. Turn the adjustment to number 8 for the smallest opening and to the letter F for the widest. The adapter engages with the G lens aperture settings. This means you have to know the smallest aperture setting of the lens from #8, or the widest opening of the lens from F, and count the number of stops to where you want to set it using the following sequence: f/22, 16, 11, 8, 5.6, 4, 2.8, 2, 1.4).When using with an older Ai or AiS manual lenses or with AF lenses with aperture settings, turn the adapter to 8 and then use the lens' aperture settings to adjust the opening. The lens' aperture setting will engage with the adapter's diaphragm.

Q: 7. Is this the proper adapter for mounting the AF-S Micro-Nikkor F2.8G ED lens on the Sony A7 camera...?

A: The Metabones Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter would be the correct adapter to connect the Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor f/2.8G ED lens to the E-mount on the Sony Alpha a7 Mirrorless Digital Camera. (The lens focal number was not listed above, but if it is a Nikon f/2.8G lens as you indicate, it would be the correct adapter).

Q: 8. is Metabones Nikon G compatibel with nikon 200-400mm lens?

A: Yes. It will work with any Nikon lens -- older lenses with aperter rings and newer G lenses which have no aperture ring. With G lenses you set the aperture on the adapter.

Q: 9. When I use this adapter with a Nikon D lens that has an aperture ring, I have both the ring on the lens and the ring on this adapter. Should I lock the ring on the lens and set my aperture on the adapter, or set the adapter to some setting and make my adjustments on the lens? Thanks

A: Keep the adapter aperture ring at the largest setting and use the aperture ring on you lens because there is no f stop number on the adapter. Otherwise either one is ok but not both

Q: 10. Can you control the aperture of a pc-e lens? Is there any solution?

A: The aperture is control by the manual iris ring on the meta bones. I believe there are seven stops to close down. The aperture will NOT be controlled by the camera body.

Fits both camera body and lens tightly. Seems to be well made.

Purchased the Metabones after trying the Vello adapter....trust me you get what you pay for...much better fit and controls work like they should.

I needed to mount a Carl Zeiss 100mm f2 Makro Planar lens with Nikon F mount on my Sony A7R body. First I purchased an inexpensive Vello adapter and the lens wouldn't lock in place with that adapter and was at risk of falling off the camera when I manually focused the lens. With the Metabones adapter the lens locks securely in place and I am able to focus from infinity to 1:2 macro which is the lenses closest focus. There is no better option on the market.

I finally decided to spend a little more for a high quality adapter. Previous cheaper adapters either didn't fit or would scratch my camera. My nikon lenses fit perfect with these. It is worth it to spend more as it saves you from purchasing all new lenses. 5/5!

This adaptor performs exactly as advertised. The stop-down mechanism seems accurate. It is very smooth and step-less. The adaptor provides excellent fit to the body and to the lens. Very close tolerances.

I needed an adapter to use my Nikon G and AI lenses on a Sony NEX-6. I wanted an aperture adjustable adapter (for my Nikon G lenses) that provides a 1/4-20 threaded foot to use my heavier lenses without straining the camera tripod socket. I first looked at FotodioX adapters because they are less expensive and spoke with one of their techs. He was very helpful, but FotodioX does not offer and aperture adjustable with a tripod mount. If you do not need the tripod mount, consider FotodioX. They have superb customer service (ask for Luis Baltazar).Metabones offered aperture control and tripod mounting. I now can use my collection of Nikon G lenses with aperture control and tripod support if needed.Great product and giving the quality, reasonably priced. Only down side is that it is not made in the USA.

Great adaptor for the money. Far better than the cheap ones purchased elsewhere. Quality fit and finish, perfect fit with my Nikon lenses. Works with both G and older manual focus lenses, so you only need one for all of your Nikons.

I use this to put some old Nikon lenses to use on Sony E-mount cameras. Sure, everyone will miss auto focus and auto exposure, but this adapter is well built, fits both the body and lens without any looseness, and dos exactly what it is supposed to do. With the shortage of lenses for E-mount this is a good way to expand usefulness of the camera.
