I mounted a tripod head on the 3/8 -16 screw without any problem but I suppose other uses might be problematic. The screw does not appear to reverse to 1/4 -20 threads, for example. Otherwise the column is very well made.I am using this column, attached to a sturdy clamp, as an extension arm for mounting a camera on a tripod head remotely.
