The B+W 62mm Close-Up +2 SC NL 2 Lens offers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 62mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase, or fine-tune the macro effect. This close-up lens has a diopter strength of +2. Diopter strengths of +1, +3, +4, or +5 are also available where this close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of this lens includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W close-up lenses are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This close-up lens features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is Heliopan Digital ES 77.no3 macro?

A: It works similar to macro in that it allows you to get closer to a subject, lessening the minimum focus distance.

Q: 2. Is this a double or single element lens?

A: The Nikon add on lens is single element. The best one I found and is double element is by Canon. It comes in two types one is the D250 D500. The D250 is about 2-3 times magnification and the D500 and that is around 5 times.

Q: 3. Does this come with a viewing filter for the TLR?

A: This is only one filter.

Q: 4. What is magnification for this lens? I'm looking for x1.5 up to x3 (similar to Nikon 5T and 6T). Thank you

A: According to the forum for this product on the Nikon USA website, The magnification factor of the D-SLR Close Up Lens (52mm) is 0.44x. (Answered by a Nikon USA representative.)

Q: 5. will this +2 diopter close up filter increase my magnification ratio on my 1:1 voigtlander 110 macro?and to what ratio and with clear resolution using macro rail?

A: Unfortunately there is no set amount of macro improvement when using a close up filter. It is all trial and error. It will increase your macro focus but we cannot estimate by how much.

Q: 6. does this filter fit tamron 60mm lens?

A: No, the Tamron SP 60mm f/2 Di II 1:1 Macro Lens uses a 55mm filter. You can use the Heliopan 55mm Close-Up +3 Lens.

Q: 7. Can i use this product with Tilta 4*5.65 carbon fiber matte-box ?

A: This is not compatible with that matte box. This is a circular 138mm filter; the Tilta matte box is designed for rectangular filters 4 x 5.65".

Q: 8. What is ES 77 No.3?

A: This is the strongest option for close-up shooting. This filter is essentially a very high quality diopter that allows a lens to focus closer then it would normally focus. A close-up filter is an alternative to using a focus tube which would also accomplish the same goal but with a bit more light loss.

Q: 9. Will this fit my Nikon d3500 lens?

A: If you're referring to the 18-55mm lens that comes with the the Nikon d3500 than the answer is no it will not. The filter thread diameter on the 18-55mm is 55mm and this close up filter is 52mm.

Q: 10. How many elements does this lens have?

A: The B+W 62mm Close-up +2 Lens (NL2), B&H # BWCU262, consists of one lens element.

I purchased this lens and the +3 lens to use in my close up and macro photography. They are well made, sturdy lenses that attach easily to my macro lens and stack. Auto focus doesn't work very well when lenses are stacked, but I generally want to use manual focus for real close up anyway.

I bought the B&W 67mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens to use on my Canon Powershot SX40. Although the SX40 has macro capability, the macro focusing is limited primarily to the wide angle end of the zoom and working distance limited lighting options when shooting macro. The 67mm Close-Up +3 Lens allows a greater working distance for lighting and for shooting live subjects. After researching, I selected the +3 diopter as providing a reasonable magnification without needing to purchase and carry a 3 or 4 lens kit. I selected the B&W as it was offered as a single lens and was coated. It seems to work well with the SX40 and I have not noticed any appreciable degradation in IQ. I bought an extra Canon 67mm adapter just for the Close-Up lens and leave it attached so I can quickly install or remove the lens with just a quarter turn of the Canon adapter.

Every B&W lens I have purchased from B&H has been both well built and of the highest quality. This one is no different. I bought this lens to extend the native macro functionality of my LUMIX FZ1000 beyond its 1:1 ratio. Initial tests using both a tripod and hand-held in full manual mode, for optimal control, have been excellent.

I tried uploading a few sample images to show the level effective level of magnification possible, DOF and overall image quality possible, but there seems to be a problem currently with the B&H site from the uploading perspective. Anyway, overall I would highly recommend this B&W product, if you are interested in experimenting with macro without incurring substantial expense.

With the filter my lens (18-250mm) minimum focus distance decreased from about 14 to about 12, measured from the back of the camera to the target object. Doesn't sound like much, but makes a significant difference in the image size. Not as much as expected, but satisfactory for me. But I'm just experimenting, not trying to capture huge closeups of bugs ...One thing I didnt realize is that with the filter on, the distance focus is severely limited. With the filter on, I can't focus beyond a meter or so away. So if you're catching butterfly closeups and that alien spaceship flies overhead ... you're not going to get it.Another caveat - the depth of field across the image is severely affected. Focus is not sharp across the entire frame with this filter. That may be good or bad depending on what you're doing. That may also be largely due to the fact that I'm taking pics with a 250mm lens at a distance of a foot or so :) DOF is so shallow at this magnification that a tripod becomes almost mandatory. For me, this is a fun toy while I save up for a dedicated macro lens.

B&W's usual quality is the first thing you'll notice. Flawless glass and a sturdy, clean-looking mounting ring. I haven't used my #3 yet but have stacked my #1 & #2 together with the expected results. These things let you get close. I don't see much vignetting, etc. with the stack but I'm sure using the #3 will be a more streamlined experience than stacking the 1 and 2. I've used filters very similar to these (not B&W) and really liked some of the outcomes. They get me to the point I seriously consider buying a dedicated macro lens, but not quite.

An inexpensive and convenient way to increase the magnification of the macro on my Panasonic Lumix dmc-fz1000. Not only that, but I can now focus from further away which minimizes my own shadow getting in the way.

The Panasonic 42.4 mm f1.7 focuses pretty close up on it's own, but with the addition of this closeup filter, it serves almost all of my macro needs. The image quality takes just a tiny hit, but having this takes up almost no room in the camera bag, but adds a lot of versatility.
