A step up in power and accessories from the smaller 50mm model, the PowerSeeker 60 60mm f/12 AZ Refractor Telescope from Celestron is a starter scope designed to introduce viewers to astronomy by giving them a complete setup for viewing the moon, planets, and meteor showers. Outfitted with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser, it will accept the most popular-sized eyepieces and accessories in addition to the two eyepieces, diagonal, and Barlow lens that comes with it.

The 90° diagonal corrects the image horizontally and vertically to use the scope as a spotter on the land and puts the user's head in a more comfortable position, especially when the scope is aimed high in the sky. A 3x Barlow lens is included and effectively triples the magnification of any eyepiece used with it for a wider range of observing possibilities. An adjustable height aluminum tripod provides a stable platform for any observations.

Q: 1. What is needed to mount a Sony a77 Mark II DSLR camera to the Celestron 6SE telescope? Thanks.

A: Celestron does not offer a camera adapter for the Sony a77 Mark II DSLR. Please contact https://www.telescopeadapters.com/ for the proper specialized adapter.

Q: 2. Has anyone purchased the square trade protection plan for their telescopes? If so do you recommend it?

A: The Celestron 6se telescope comes with a 2 year warranty from Celestron. However, Celestron will not cover damage done to the telescope caused by tripping over the tripod in the dark or other types of accidental damage. Square Trade will cover those types of accidents and if they cannot repair it, they would send you a check for the original purchase price.

Q: 3. What adapters can you buy for it can you realy see plants clearly ?

A: The Scope has a very small Objective. So adding magnification won't help. Ideally you should go with a larger objective scope to actually see Planets. It also all depends on if you have no Light Pollution too.

Q: 4. What planets can you see with this telescope?

A: Mercury Venus, Distinguishable phases Moon, Major craters visible Mars Jupiter Saturn, No rings

Q: 5. What is needed to mount a Sony a77 mark 2 DSLR camera to the celestron 6se tripod? Thanks!

A: The A77 Mark II is an A Mount Lens. Here is the Vello T Mount Lens to Sony A-Mount Camera Adapter, BH #VELASAT. https://bhpho.to/311LRJn

Q: 6. can you see the rings of Saturn with this?

A: Yes, Saturn and its rings is visible in the PowerSeeker 50 telescope.

Q: 7. It is said that this requires 3 stars alignment , so after three stars aligned , does that mean it will go other objects on command or you still need to align it again other objects ?

A: No, once the telescope is aligned (3-star alignment is only one of the options, but there are others), you can ask it to go to other objects directly, either by using the app or hand controller.

Q: 8. is this a good telescope for a curious 10 year old?

A: Yes this is a great scope for a beginner. They will not have any issues maneuvering the scope either.

Q: 9. Can the altaz base be removed from the tripod , and can I used another photo tripod with it; one that has 3/8-16 screw on top?

A: For the Powerseeker 80AZ the base is not designed to be removed from the Tripod. It voids any warranty.

Q: 10. is this a spotting scope that can be used for bird watching?

A: I really don't recommend using this for Bird Watching. This is really more so for Celestial use. This would work, but might be inconvenience with 1 fixed focal length eyepiece. I would recommend going with the Celestron Ultima 80 3.1 /80mm Spotting Scope Kit. Website link: https://bhpho.to/2jl9m8N

Bought this somewhere else that did not have a place to review it. I shop at B&H enough so I posted my review here. For the upcoming Eclipse I wanted something with a little more power than a traditional paper solar glasses would provide. I bought this early so I could practice getting the sun into the field of view of the telescope. This is why I wanted to write a review - The solar finder for this, while super simple, is what makes this so easy to use. You simply point toward the sun, then look at the solar finder and look for the shadow. Line up the shadow on the bulls eye and you are done! After a couple of practice tries, I can now line up the sun in this telescope in a matter of seconds.

This telescope is an outstanding value, and with it I was able to really see the solar eclipse well.
Disclaimer: I used a different Celestron eyepiece which enabled me to really see the sun up close and allow for these amazing pictures to be taken just by holding my smart phone's camera lens over the eyepiece.
I highly recommend this telescope for solar viewing, and the nice thing about it is the variety of eyepiece lenses that are available, as I am going to see about ordering a couple of additional ones.
This is truly a portable telescope, and I found the tripod to be more than adequate for its intended purpose.
It's nice how everything fits into the backpack for hiking out to a proper location for solar viewing
I highly recommend this product.
It is easy to use, the instructions are very good, and most important of all, very safe.

This is a light, simple and fast to set up and very portable device for viewing the sun. My rating is based on what it is advertised as doing. It is not a high magnification, tracking devise. If that is what you want or need, then you will have to spend more, Some reviewers have complained that the tripod is not more stable. The telescope is light and the tripod is adequate If I were going to use it in my backyard then I would probably use one of my more solid camera tripods. A friend who has one of these sets explained that he uses it to get a fast view of the sun, if there are sun spots then he sets up a larger scope on a tracking mount. I'll do the same. The alignment tool is ridiculously simple and fast.

Was able to see the eclipse up close with this which made the experience more enjoyable. Hard to take photos with the set up but possible.

the optics are very good. I did not use the eye piece that came with it, but used one that I already had. The image was excellent, very good contrast and very sharp. The tripod is flimsy, but I used another.

This is a really great little scope. It comes complete with everything you need to view the sun, plus a tripod, backpack, star diagonal and an eyepiece For my preferences I wish the tripod were heavier but the tripod supplied fits in the backpack and my grandkids can even set it up and use it. It accepts all the lenses I use with my 8 inch cassegrain and I can also use my CCD camera with it. For the price it was well worth it as it is sun ready.
