Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this play Blu-ray movies?

A: Yes it can play Blu-Ray disc's.

Q: 2. Will I be able to use this on a computer wit no CD DRIVE?

A: Yes, as long as it has a USB port you would be able to use this..

Q: 3. Will it work with a 2015 MacBook Air?

A: Can't say for sure; but it works great with my 2013 MacBook Pro. So I would imagine that it would work fine. No drivers or anything. Just plugged it in and it shows up as a choice for reading/writing optical discs.

Q: 4. I bought this to use on my new Windows 10 computer. I was shocked to learn that Windows 10 Media Player does not support DVD nor BlueRay play back. I installed the CyberLink software that came with this drive expecting it to install DVD/BD player software but still no luck. Is this drive not compatible with Win10 or am I doing something wrong?

A: I have 1 Windows 10 desktop and 1 Windows 10 laptop and this LG Bluray Burner works well with both machines. Plug it in and it works. Windows 10 media player does not support Bluray, so it comes with Cyberlink Media Suite. Install the suite on both machines and voila... It plays Bluray or burns disc easily. No problem at all.

Q: 5. Does this Drive operate with Windows 11?

A: Yes, the Transcend 8x Portable CD/DVD Writer is compatible with Windows 11.

Q: 6. All of the Pioneer DVD players/burners I own are Region Free natively (no need to hack anything). Is this player Region Free? I have DVD's from all around the world and I don't want to have to deal with a computer player that can not play DVD's/BD's from any region.

A: Yes, this player/writer has region protection. After using it multiple times on a specific region it would lock to the corresponding location.

Q: 7. What are the DVD-R DL andDVD+R DL) Write speeds?

A: The speed for both DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL is 8x.

Q: 8. Does this drive burn dual layer DVD's? Documentation says it does, but so far I haven't had any success even with trying varying media brands. OS X 10.11.2 mac mini 2014.

A: Yes it does work with DVD-R DL.

Q: 9. will this work with window 10?

A: Yes

Q: 10. So what's the final verdict? Does this unit write Blu-rays to a mid 2012 MacBook Pro running El Capitan? I've already tried the LG BP 60NB10 that I bought on Amazon and was not successful with this. That model also would not play a homemade DVD.

A: Yes, the LG Slim Portable Blu-ray/DVD Writer BH #LGWP50NB40 can write Blu-ray discs on a Mac 2012 running el Capitan, however, they would only be Data blu-rays. If you want to make blu-ray discs to play on a blu-ray player, you would need additional software.
