Pairing the simplicity of a Dobsonian with a comprehensive but user-friendly smartphone app, the StarSense Explorer 150mm f/5 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope from Celestron makes it easy to observe fascinating objects in the cosmos. No computerized mount is needed—simply place your phone in the dock attached to the optical tube, and after a quick alignment, the app will scan the sky and guide you to Jupiter's Great Red Spot, Saturn's rings, the Orion Nebula, and hundreds of other objects. When the bull's-eye on your phone screen turns green, the object is visible in your eyepiece.

Equipped with a 150mm parabolic primary mirror, the telescope can pick out the brighter objects, even when used in a city. A darker location will provide access to many more. The Tabletop Dobsonian is highly portable and can be used on a table, a car hood, or atop an optional tripod.

  • Audio descriptions and detailed information about thousands of objects within the app's robust database
  • Alt-azimuth base with Teflon bearings and altitude brake permits smooth movement of optical tube for following objects across the sky
  • Optical tube can be adjusted in its cradle for the most comfortable observing position
  • Rack-and-pinion focuser accepts 1.25" eyepieces; 25mm and 10mm Kellner eyepieces included

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. 1000mm focal length and only 610mm long tube, what's the catch?

A: This is the Manufacturer's specifications. My apologies.

Q: 2. Can this telescope be used for Astro photography?

A: Yes the Celestron StarSense Explorer 8" Smartphone App-Enabled Dobsonian Telescope can be used for astrophotography.

Q: 3. Is there an adapter to connect Sony A7 III e-mount?

A: You will need (2) items. The Celestron SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter for All Refractor and Reflector Telescopes which Accept 1.25" Eyepieces - Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter BH #CETA1.25 • MFR #93625 to attach to the telescope and the Vello T-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Adapter BH #VELANEXT • MFR #LA-NEX-T to attach to your camera body. Those (2) pieces will now screw together.

Q: 4. Can you attach a DSLR camera to it?

A: You are able to mount a DSLR camera onto the Celestron StarSense Explorer 114mm f/4 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope two ways. One way is to remove the eyepiece, and replace it with a T mount, and the appropriate dedicated camera T mount adapter. To see what T mount adapter you need, it will depend on the actual DSLR you want to mount. For example, here is one for Canon DSLRs with the Canon EF mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/261256-REG/Celestron_93419_T_Mount_SLR_Camera_Adapter.html and here is a T mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202135-REG/Celestron_93625_SLR_35mm_OR_Digital.html The other way to mount a DSLR camera onto the Celestron StarSense Explorer 114mm f/4 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope, is by using the T mount adapter, and the Novagrade T-Mount Digiscoping Adapter connected to each other, and that way you can create photographs taking advantage of the magnification of the eyepiece, (When you replace the eyepiece you loose all the magnification of the eyepiece) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1142995-REG/novagrade_ua_00t1_01_t_mount_adapter.html

Q: 5. Does this telescope come with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter?

A: The Celestron StarSense Explorer 8" Smartphone App-Enabled Dobsonian Telescope BH #CESSE203DOBT • MFR #22470 comes with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter.

Q: 6. Can you see saturns rings with this? Is it clear? Also what would I need to buy to attach my Nikon d7500 to take photos?

A: Yes, you can view Saturn very clearly through the StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ. We recommend that you purchase a T-Ring for Nikon Camera #93402 and a Universal Barlow and T-Adapter 1.25" #93640 to take short exposure of the moon or bright planets. Because the telescope does not come with an equatorial tracking mount, you will not be able to take long exposure images. A Smartphone Adapter such as the Basic Smartphone Adapter, 1.25” #81035 is also available to help align your smartphone's camera lens with the telescope's eyepiece for short exposures. The Universal Barlow lens will also double the power of the eyepieces that came with the telescope.

Q: 7. Can this also function as a regular telescope (without the phone) if you sometimes want to use the telescope without the phone?

A: Of course you can. The Phone app is there to help you guide the telescope to specific objects quickly and accurately.

Q: 8. Is this easy to disassemble/reassemble to move and transport?

A: Seems so, see the Manual https://celestron-site-support-files.s3.amazonaws.com/support_files/22461_StarSense_Explorer%20DX_130AZ_QSG_06092020.pdf

Q: 9. Is the mirror parabolic? Or spherical?

A: A large 8” parabolic primary mirror with XLT coatings helps you make the most of StarSense technology. Locate faint, deep-sky objects in seconds and see them in more detail than ever before.

Q: 10. Hi, do you have to plug this in the wall socket ? If yes then can it be used overseas with 220 volt or only 110

A: The Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ 130mm f/5 AZ Reflector Telescope BH #CESSEDX130R • MFR #22461 has no motor or power movements, stickily manual. Check out some of the YouTube videos on the product.

Nice affordable bundle with extras I would have had to purchase separately. I have added a GPS, power focuser, and will add the Sky Align when it becomes available.

This was purchased as an upgrade to my old Meade ETX90ec and what an upgrade it is. The price was affordable and is very capable. Matched with the Baadar zoom it's a great telescope. Excellent seeing, clear and well defined. With the Wi-Fi adaptor, being able to control the scope with my iPad is a plus.

have used this product over several nights now on Gold Coast Australia where backgound lighting is not as severe as in metro areas, easy to read and apply instructions, got it up and running first try, took advice of earlier reviewers and bought power adaptor so no battery problems, pick three objects and away you go with all possible items in sky listed, great viewing lately of venus and jupiter with moons, highly recommend to all though I am just an intermediate user...

I received this kit with my new telescope. Being the middle of winter, I have not used the telescope or the kit yet, but upon inspection, it is going to be a great addition to my newly purchased Celestron Nexstar 6SE, All parts in the kit look well made!
