Designed to be the ultimate performer's recording and mixing front end, the Camden EC2 from Cranborne Audio is a versatile microphone preamp, signal processor, and reference-grade headphone amp in one compact, portable desktop unit. With two of Camden's award-winning preamps that feature Mojo analog saturation on tap in three distinct flavors (Thump for transformer-style saturation, Cream for tube-style saturation, and True Bypass for pristine transparency), you can dial in any tone you want on mics, line-level signals, and Hi-Z instruments.

The audio performance of the EC2 approaches the theoretical limits of analog audio technology with extraordinarily low noise and distortion, and incredible phase and frequency linearity across all available gain settings. The powerful headphone amp features two discrete mixers with independent level controls. You get stereo pairs of balanced XLR and impedance-matched balanced and unbalanced 1/4" I/O for handling any studio setup or signal chain. The external high-current power supply provides a larger-than-average 24V of power for high-performance operation and sports a latching connector for reliability. The EC2 includes an external power supply, an IEC power cable, and four rubber feet for desktop placement.

Connect the Camden EC2 to your audio interface and experience the award-winning sound of the Camden preamp design. Providing up to 68 dB of pristine, clean gain, Camden EC2 is the perfect preamp to pair with low-gain dynamic microphones and ribbon mics.

Featuring a reference-grade high-powered headphone amp with a dedicated line mixer, Camden EC2 gives you true zero-latency mastering-quality monitoring of your preamps that's effortlessly mixed with playback from your DAW.

Thanks to its custom Mojo harmonic saturation control, the Camden EC2 offers 3 flavors of preamp tone that can be dialed to taste:

  • Thump provides transformer-style saturation with natural and dynamic low-end thickening at halfway and warm sustain without muddiness at 100%
  • Cream delivers tube-style saturation with compression effects at halfway, tape-style saturated high frequencies and sub-frequency harmonics at 70%, and fat transients with midrange compression and noticeable overdrive at 100%
  • True Bypass gives you the pure, uncolored EC1 preamp, with pristine transparency, high detail, and virtually nonexistent noise and distortion

Monitor the Camden preamp in true zero latency using headphones connected directly to the front panel, and mix in external DAW playback using the stereo 1/4" aux input jacks on the Camden EC2's rear panel. With the same reference-grade design developed for the 500R8 audio interface, Camden EC2's headphone amps deliver up to 1.2W of clean power per ear and a flat frequency response from <1 Hz to 70 kHz, perfect to power any set of headphones with clean power.

Housed in a half-rack desktop format, you can take the Camden EC2 with you studio to studio or onstage. Dial in your sonic signature, and control your own consistent and pristine headphone monitoring.

Devoid of software updates and USB standards, the Camden EC2 is with you for the long haul. Even when you upgrade your surrounding studio, the Camden EC2 will always provide your tonal benchmark.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I do not need phantom power, can I still use it without the battery?

A: The Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter requires power from a 9V battery in all use cases for proper operation. Using the SR-PAX1 with the phantom power feature disengaged still requires power from the internal 9V battery source.

Q: 2. For how long is the battery working?

A: They have not published that information.

Q: 3. I have 2 3.5mm mics will they be on separate left and right channels or be all in one?

A: The Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter can be used to connect two microphones with 3.5mm connectors. There are separate left and right inputs on the back to connect both mics and a button on the front labeled "M/S" which is used to select between mono and stereo mode. When using the mono setting, the left and right channels will be combined as one mixed signal on both the left and right channels (same audio on both sides). When using the stereo mode, the two mics will be separated on different sides.

Q: 4. What is the difference between Fethead Regular and Fethead filter?

A: On some microphones, a subject close up to the mic may have exaggerated bass frequencies. Although this can be desirable for some recordings, it may not always be what you want. The Fethead filter mic has a high pass (low cut) filter built in, which will cut frequencies below 220 Hz by 6 db/octave. The standard Fethead model (B&H # TRFETHEAD) will boost all frequencies evenly.

Q: 5. I have a Sennheiser MKH 416 and I didn't know the Sennhieser wireless plug SKP-100 doesn't have phantom power. Would this help give my microphone phantom power for wireless use? Or am I stuck investing in a SKP-500 for $499 USD?

A: You could try using a more inexpensive wireless system that provides phantom power as well, like the Xvive U3C. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1484388-REG/xvive_audio_u3c_set_u3c_wireless_2_4_ghz.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 6. Plan on using this product with my Rode NTG2 and dr-40. which version do i buy?

A: I do all of my low end noise removal with SoundSoap or Izotope RX5. I would go with the version without the high pass filter. If you are using a ribbon mic that requires you to use a lot of gain, then the version with the high pass filter would probably serve you well.

Q: 7. The rode NTG-2 has can power itself with a AA battery. Will that battery power transfer also the this Fethead or must the Fethead power come from the recorder? I would like to plug NTG-2/Fethead combo directly into mirrorless camera.

A: No, the battery power for the NTG-2 will not also power the TRITON AUDIO FetHead Phantom In-Line Microphone Preamp.

Q: 8. Can this be used with an unbalanced stereo mic? Considering purchasing this to shield my AT2022 from phantom power but that mic outputs stereo on XLR.

A: sorry can't help with that one - i don't have a stereo mic so wouldn't know. fethead works great with my ribbon & SM7 though. try manufacturers (Triton Audio). good luck!

Q: 9. Will the Sony ECM-44B - Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone work with the FetHead Phantom?

A: Sorry, I just don't know.

Q: 10. Is there any advantage to using this fethead when I already have my ntg3 connected to the nice preamps of a mixpre-d?

A: You will be able to use significantly less gain.
