The Camplex BLACKJACK is a camera-back adapter and Neutrik opticalCON DUO converter for Blackmagic's ATEM fiber camera converter, sold separately. It connects into the ATEM's LC connection and converts it to an opticalCON DUO interface to provide a substantially more ruggedized, durable connection. An optional tactical fiber cable with an opticalCON connector is required.

BLACKJACK sandwiches in the ATEM and attaches it to any camera or rig via one of several optional BLACKJACK adapter plates, which come in cheese plate, V-mount, and Gold-mount versions.

Q: 2. Can these control multiple pts cameras (with different ID numbers)?

A: As per Blackmagic Design: These can control up to 7 PTZ cameras with daisy chained RS-422 connection using VISCA protocol. However, to be able to do that would require one of the ATEM switchers with the RS-422 connection.

Q: 3. Just to be clear. I can control my Atem 4 M/E broadcast 4k and hyperdeck extreme 4k all on one ATEM 1 M/E advanced panel?

A: Yes you can. All of those products are compatible with each other. The Advance Panel can control all current ATEM models.

Q: 4. How would people without the camera converters get tied into comms?

A: You can use the Mini Converter Optical to SDI and connect to our cameras supporting talkback. The Television Studio Cameras have an optical IO if desired.

A: The best method is to use a power adapter with a switch, as there is not one on the Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel.

A: The Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel is just a Panel control that attaches to ATEM switchers. Black Magic custom panels are made of very high quality materials, and components. Q: 8. Does the TRRS cable split to plug into the headphone and mic jacks on the ATEM Camera Converter or do you just plug it into one or the other?

A: Hi Guy. The mic line circuitry and the headphone audio on the ATEM Camera Converter are actually wired together on the “Headphones” jack, which oddly enough is not indicated in the manual by Blackmagic. So, you just plug the TRRS plug into the "Headphones" jack on the ATEM and you will have full functionality including the mic. Thank you!

Q: 9. Can someone explain to me the differences between this product and the BMD ATEM Talkback Converter 4K? I'm trying to achieve talkback and talley with 3 URSA's and an ATEM. Trying to figure out which one I need. Thanks!

A: The Black Magic Studio converter is used for Studio conversion when using Black Magic's Broadcast URSA Studio cameras. Q: 10. I avoided early BMD switchers due to fan noise (it'll be in the auditorium, not a separate control room.) Is this still an issue with these newer units?

A: The Atem Switchers still have fans and can be positioned away from the area where you work using the Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel. The Panel is a just controller for the Atem Switcher model and would be silent.

This unit is truly a great value and is a must for professional broadcasters. Previously, this wasthe cost for basically one CCU. The fact you can control 4 (more with the shift function) is truly amazing. The only complaint I have is the coloring is more limited than the broadcast professional units. 5

Only had this for 3 weeks but its has worked well. I bought this one to replace the more expensive 2ME Advanced panel that failed after just 4 months of use. So far this panel can do everything that we need. I wish I would have just bought this one instead of the more expensive 2Me panel, in the beginning. I would certainly buy this again, and I hope it will last much longer than the expensive 2Me panel. 5

Ok, I just feel bad this thing only had a single 3-star review that was otherwise positive. Of course you need desk space if you're shading multiple cameras. This controller is solidly built and well thought out. The cost is way below what traditional CCUs would run you, not to mention the footprint, and the fact that you get so much control through Ethernet and either SDI or fiber is one of the things I love about the BlackMagic live ecosystem. Highly recommended. 5
