The DC Block 6 has been designed to improve the quality of AC electricity that feeds our audio and AV systems.

Mains electricity has a fundamental influence on the audio signal as it passes through a system, from source to amplifiers to speakers. The mains supply in a typical home is subject to interference induced by a range of issues, causing the AC waveform to distort before it reaches each component. This creates noise in the audio signal, which degrades sound quality – a situation that continues to worsen with more and more electrical devices being added to the home mains supply.

One common issue is ‘DC on the mains’ – a problem that is well known to affect the performance of audio equipment, especially amplifiers. In theory, the mains electricity we obtain from the sockets in our homes should be pure AC, with a perfectly symmetrical sine wave alternating between positive and negative phases.

The AC transformers commonly used in home audio equipment cannot tolerate the presence of significant levels of DC voltage without being compromised. Less than 500mV of DC – typical in an average household electricity supply – can be sufficient to cause toroidal transformers of the kind often found in amplifiers to become saturated, which adversely affects sonic performance and may cause audible mechanical vibration.

Q: 1. Should the transport use digital coaxial or toslink cable to maximize the sound quality?

A: That really comes down to sound preference, typically coaxial gives better dynamic range. But it some cases toslink will perform better. I would recommend to try both and see which one you like.

A: The On-Stage Pop Blocker for Rode PodMic Microphone (Version 2), B&H # ONPBPMJBHV2, will not fit a Shure SM7B microphone. Use the recommended ISOVOX ISOPOP BroadCast Pop Filter for Broadcast Microphones (Midnight Black), B&H # ISOPOPB.

Q: 3. What's the difference between version 2 and the one that's been discontinued? I have 4 of the discontinued ones and am wondering if there was an issue with them. Only problem I can notice is that the ring that goes around the microphone is just slightly too small so when you try to clamp it down you have to hold the metal tab to keep it from spreading apart and bending.

A: The new On-Stage Pop Blocker for Rode PodMic Microphone (Version 2) offers an improved clamp mechanism and provides a better fit on the microphone when compared to the original version of the Pop Blocker for the PodMic.

Q: 4. Does the same unit support 115v and 230v input? Manual says 100v, 115v, 230v, 240v. Back of unit says 115v for US.

A: As the model we carry is mainly meant for the US market, it will only operate on 115V.

Q: 5. Can this be attached to a standard baseplate or do you have to have the movecam baseplate?

A: The riser block is cut with a dovetail on the bottom intended to slide into the Movecam baseplate. However, the riser block is also drilled and tapped on the bottom for one centered 3/8 hole and four additional 1/4 holes. So, I'd say it's possible to mount the riser on a standard baseplate.

Q: 6. Is it compatibile with the rode procaster?

A: The On-Stage Pop Blocker for Rode PodMic Microphone (Version 2) is specified for use with the Rode Podmic and will likely not function with the Rode Procaster microphone in the same manner.

A: Yes, the On-Stage Pop Blocker for Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 Microphones (Version 2) is compatible for use with the Rode Procaster Broadcast Microphone.

Q: 9. Does this riser block & the corresponding base plate fit the Movcam A7sii cage?

A: The Movcam A7SII cage has a different riser block, which we do not yet have available for a separate purchase. We do however have the Movcam Sony A7II/A7SII/A7RII Accessories Kit which comes with the handle, cage, riser block and base plate available at this time.

A: The ASVS4-B is a 4 diameter single layer nylon pop filter. The clothespin style clip makes it widely compatible with stands and mics and can be used with mics such as the Blue Snowball or similar.
