A: No, screwing the head on or off is a simple task. If there are any set screws in the tripod base, just back them out so that you can unscrew the head.

A: Yes, the Manfrotto Befree 3-Way Live Head can hold a DSLR and a 24-70 2.8 lens. It is not the smoothest head however, but it is good for the size and price. A smoother head would be larger, heavier, and more expensive.
