Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this mic compatible with the Sony HXR-NX3/1?

A: Yes it is. The camera will provide the phantom power that the mic requires. You might want to get these o-rings (SAROCS) to keep it in place if you mount it on the camera's mount.

Q: 2. What is the distance between the two lyres? I've heard its 1 , but just wanted to confirm that before I buy one :)

A: Thank you very much for the quick responses :) I plan on using the INV6 with my Schoeps active bars! But I'm in the process of making my own PAS(Point At Stacks) active bars out of 20mm delrin and 3/8 stainless steel threaded rods as well, and just wanted to know the distance between the lyres so that I can make a super small PAS bar! I was going to make my smallest PAS bar about 1 1/4 long, so this will be perfect! And then I'm going to make a few at DINa/DIN/NOS spacing as well to use with my NBob SGC Clips(custom Schoeps SGC clips that are made from delrin and aluminum bases)! So this INV 6 will be absolutely perfect! So thanks again for the answers fellas ;)

Q: 3. Can this mic be plugged into a Panasonic GH-4 camera which I believe supplies minimal power to some mics?

A: The GH4 will provide plug in power to some mics. The NT4 will require phantom power which is more than the 1-5 volts your camera can provide. You can however use the mic using a 9 volt battery which will power the mic, and a Stereo XLR to Mini 1/8 inch Cable is included in the package which allows for connection to your camera.

Q: 4. What's the best blimp/dead for this microphone?

A: The Rycote Mini Windjammer provides optimum wind diffusion for smaller microphones. Like the standard Windjammer, the Mini Windjammer provides 10 - 12dB extra protection over standard windscreens. This Windjammer accommodates the Rode NT4.

Q: 5. HelloDoes the microphone includes Remote Audio 5-Pin Stereo XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y-Cable - 18?

A: What'sIn the Box:Shure VP88 - Cardioid Stereo Condenser MicrophoneFoam WindscreenSwivel-Stand AdapterMulti-Connector Y-Cable: Included 'Y' cable with 5-pin female XLR connector on microphone end, 2x 3-pin male XLR connectors on equipment ends 6V BatteryZippered Carrying/Storage BagLimited 2-Year Warranty

Q: 6. Everybody tells me that this mic is great for loud environments. I could use that. But what's the max SPL?

A: 148db with pad

Q: 7. Hi, I was just wondering. Is it possible to connect Shure VP88 to Sony PCM-D100? And how? And is there any disadvantage in doing that? (recording quality, etc.) All the best, Emil

A: The Shure VP88 can be used with a portable recorder such as the D-100 when set to stereo mode and using the internal battery power. To connect to the 3.5mm input on the recorder would require the included Y cable and additional adapter cable. There would be no disadvantage, however the PCM-D100 is designed primarily for use with the internal mics, and a mic such as the Shure would benefit from a unit with XLR inputs and higher quality preamps.

Q: 8. I noted that this microphone has 5 pins but my audio recorders are both 3-pin (Marantz PMD661 and Zoom H6). Can I purchase an adapter cable? This may be dumb question. I'm new to this aspect of recording, and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on any website.

A: Three reasons I bought the NT4 is that it comes with a five pin adapter to two three pin plugs, also a five pin adapter to 3.5mm audio adapter and it can be run off an internal 9 volt battery. None of my digital recorders supply Phantom Power . The audio level at analog output is more than sufficient to connect to my Sony PCM-D50.

Q: 9. Is there a mount for this microphone on a HVX-255?

A: Due to the weight and diameter of the Rode NT4 it is difficult to shock mount this mic on a camera. You are able however to adapt the incuded stand mount the RM3 to your cameras shoe with a simple adapter. The Tether Tools hot shoe adapter features a 3/8 male thread that will support the stand mount using the 3/8 thread adapter that was included with the stand mount.

Q: 10. what is the weight without the brass adapter?

A: Less than .25lbs.

These have a beautifully balanced frequency response with nice low frequency extension. Not hyped, just present and smooth. They are also very quiet and exceptional for nature recording (which is my purpose)

I'm using the set in a modified Crown SASS rig which is light years better than the original. Very happy with the results.

Purchased a stereo set to use as interior dialogue boom mics and have since used them for everything from dialogue recording to piano, to room mics and they preform excellently across the board.

Similarly to the HC shotgun mics, they have a well defined mid-range and a smooth, un-hyped low end. They might be a little bright for some applications but the clarity you get out of the box is worth it even if you have to tame it slightly with EQ.

No RFI issues noticed and the small size makes it a great boom mic for low ceilings or if you need to split a mic between two speakers. It’s built like a tank and the included case is excellent.
