Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between this diopter and this one listed for $20 less BH #LI4565DIO12 ?

A: The main difference with the two Lindsey Optics 4 x 5.65" diopters is the focus distance supported by each model. With diopters, the strength is in the number. Diopter strength is from 1/2, 1, 2, 3, and 4. They are set up so that you mount the diopter 1 on the lens, place the lens focus to Infinity and the diopter then focuses the lens a 1 meter. Further more 1/2 means it is focused at 2 meters.  BH #LI45651BTS is 1 BH #LI4565DIO12 is 1/2

Nice system. Wish it packed more compactly for backpacking expedition... However, wonderful, flexible system, useful with other CLS flashes. Comomander alone is well worth it. Can hide flashes (especially small units with this system) for creative use.

I have only tried the R1C1 a couple of times yet, but so far it meets all my expectations. Intuitive to use and versatile, since you have the two separate flashes. Build quality is good, and the whole kit comes in an well-padded case.

After reading multiple reviews and much consideration, I finally bit the bullet, reconciled myself to the cost and purchased this kit. I'm very glad I did. I use this on a Nikon D200 for closeup to macro photography both in the field and table top and it has worked fabulously. It is bulky and initially, there are a lot of parts to put together but once everything is setup it is easy to use and control. I especially like the ease of setting the relative power output between the flash units. It is also easy to set exposure compensation. The TTL has worked well. The kit comes with most of what you need. Just make certain you get batteries. You may also need to get a step up ring or two if your filter thread, like mine, is a different diameter than supported by the various adapter rings included in the kit. The SU-800 Commander can control up to three flash group settings (you can use more than one flash in each group). It should be noted that when using the macro setting for the SU-800, the power output of the third group is manually set whereas the first two groups can have TTL control. That said, in the tabletop situation, I've found a third SB-R200 WIRELESS REMOTE SPEEDLIGHT to be very useful for lighting the background. While I often like a darker background in my macro photography, I usually find a pure black background distracting. The third speedlight solves this problem. For tabletop, I had the option to put together my own setup, with cables running to the various units, etc. The R1C1 eliminates the cables and is easy to use. For the field, the R1C1 provides an ease of use and versatility I would have found hard to duplicate. I've never been thrilled with the flat light of a ring flash and a single flash is frequently too directional and requires some sort of diffuser kludge. The two SB-R200 speedlights provide the lighting options I was looking for. In conclusion, a great setup for closeup and macro. You'll need to decide if it is worth the expense.

This thing is amazing. Perfect for walking around in the woods taking pictures of the little stuff. Canon doesn't have anything that comes close to this. I just wish Nikon would make a 1-5x macro like the canon lens and I would be in heaven.
