A more preferable method would be to mount a boom pole onto a C-stand/light stand with a "boom mate" style adapter such as the BoomMate BPH Boompole Holder and Grip Head Kit (BH #BOBPHV2K). This method will allow the stand to be placed much further from the subject (the length of the boom pole) and not have such an influence over the camera shot, so that a wider angle can be used if desired.
