I have used WD Black drives for years. These new 6TB drives are the coolest and quietest running that I have ever experienced. Excellent for media or large game storage.

I use this drive, have now 4 of them. However, this latest purchase was problematic: Arrived DOA! Was not pleased! It was sent back. After some delay and back-ordering wait time, the unit received is purring fine, quiet and fast. So far when in service none of these drives gave me any problem! The customer service people are slow not very eager to please, but complete their job in their own slow time!

I have a couple of the 4TB and couple of the 6TB WD black drives. They all perform well. No issues. One thing to note is because they are high performance drives they tend to run hot. Make sure there is plenty of air flow.

I need to amend my prior one-star review (Headline: Constant PWL
Noise, Work-Stoppage Head-Parking).

I was mistaken when I identified
this hard drive as the source of my problems! Around the same time I installed the drive, I had also started working with a client who relies heavily on DropBox syncing: I've since figured out that DropBox's constant syncing of team assets is what's been annihilating my system reliability, and I've been managing the issue by Pausing Sync with excellent results. I'm back to loving these drives like I always used to!

I'm posting this review to mitigate the old one, and seeing if I can get it taken down.

This is my second WD Black 7200 RPM drive that I've owned, and the first that I've bought from B&H. On this order, the drive was DOA. It would spin-up, but I could not initialize it and ultimately RMA'd it and used a WD Gold 7200 RPM drive for my backup prior to upgrading my OS. The Rona has slowed B&H down a bit, but they were fabulous in granting my RMA and sending out a second Black drive that works as expected. Thank you B&H. I use these as external drives for offline backups. I house these in external drive enclosures as single units and only bring them online to add files (remove from my RAID drive) or to pull from backups as we need them. We edit at least 30 GB of video files per week and including export files, need to move at least 50 GB of files offline per week. In the 7 years that we've been doing this, all of our WD drives have worked flawless. Transfer speed from my RAID 5 via USB3 to a single external WD Black is around 120 MB/sec on large sequential files.

I have used many drives over the years but the WD Caviar Black always seem to come out in top. Unless your using a SSD, drive I feel these are the fastest most reliable mechanical drives you can get

I have been using WD Black desktop drives across two desktops for data storage for several years. I currently have 8 in use. In additon to great performace they are backed by a 5-year warranty, which is the best in this class of drives. All drives, regardless of brand, may (and likely will) fail at some point in time. WD's no-nonense system for replacement makes this drive a great choice. You will pay more than you will for some of their other varieties, but in terms of overall performance, you do get what you pay for. I am not a fan of so-called green drives, which go to sleep when not in use. This can be an issue in situations of heavy use, where instant acess is required at all times.
