The CM-HPX1 from Sonifex is a passive transformer-balanced headphone amplifier that allows you to connect a balanced stereo input via a pair of rear-panel XLR connectors and send it to headphones connected to a front-panel 1/4" jack with level control. The unit requires no power and uses a transformer with a 2:1 ratio to ensure that any headphone load presented at the output is reflected through to the input at a 1:4 ratio; this means that a 150-ohm set of headphones looks like 600 ohms at the input, a suitable load for most good quality line output stages. The CM-MNT1 desk-mount plate (available separately) allows you to conveniently mount the unit to the underside of a desk.
