The Shotgun Mic Foam and Windjammer Combo from Rycote is a slip-on wind solution for shotgun microphones. The foam features a 4.7" inner depth and a standard hole diameter opening. It features an open-cell acoustic foam windscreen that offers up to 10 dB wind-noise attenuation and a synthetic-fur windjammer that offers up to 12 dB of wind-noise attenuation.

The foam windscreen slips over the microphone head. The windjammer slips over the foam. The combo is designed to keep high-frequency loss to a minimum while providing resistance against the effects of moisture and UV light. Use it to capture audio recordings in outdoor conditions such as on boats or beaches, in stormy weather, and more.

I recently shot an on-camera interview outside in what seemed like pretty light wind conditions. It was a short piece and I never gave wind conditions a second thought, which in retrospect was pretty sloppy of me. Since I was shooting on a GlideCam unit in close proximity to my subject and we were moving quickly I went with my camera mounted shotgun mic with its standard foam wind screen. If you've ever tried to correct for wind noise in post, you know what a challenge that can be. In retrospect, it is way better to deal with it at the time of acquisition and a good quality windscreen like this one goes a very long way to improving sound quality.Yet another reminder to be cautious whenever you hear that small voice in your head saying, I can fix it in post. Don't ever listen to that. It should be a reminder that you are being sloppy. 5

I've been a news photographer for 18 years. I've been using this Rycote Softie for last 13 yrs. It is sensitive and noise reducing. I haven't found anything that works better. 5
