The DC-5D1 D-Tap Dummy Battery for Canon 5D and 7D from Hawk-Woods allows the user to input an external power source into their 5D or 7D. Regulated to 8.4V, the dummy battery accepts voltages up to 30V but is more commonly used with V-Mount batteries. The DC-5D1 is suitable for use with the 5D MK1, MK2, MK3, and the latest MK4 model.

Unfortunately since the M50 doesn't have a power input, using a dummy battery and keeping the battery door open is the only way to power the camera with an external power source.

I really like the product but it's just too heavy with the camera and a 70-200mm II F/2.8L IS lens during a wedding event. Unfortunately I returned it. 5

I recently sold my Canon 6D and Canon 7Dii to purchase the Canon 5DIV. Both previous cameras had grips, but I was going to try to get by without the grip on the 5DIV in order to reduce size and space. Also, the price is almost twice what the other grips cost which made my try to go without it. I had no idea how much I depended on the shutter release and other control functions on the battery grip until I tried going without it for 2 weeks. I could barely remember how to shoot in portrait orientation without the grip. Very frustrating, so I broke down and purchased. As expected, it is flawless and fits comfortably in my hands. Although it adds weight and size, it just simply feels better in my hands with the grip. I also feel better about having 2 batteries in use knowing that I can go all day long shooting pictures without even thinking about completely draining the batteries. Simply a must have accessory for me. Love it!!! 5
