Pspaudioware Psp Binamp Class-a Triode Preamp Emulation Plug-in
- Product Code: ga140052

Taking inspiration from the legendary Italian-made Binson Echorec 2 Delay, the PSP BinAmp from PSPAudioware is a plug-in which emulates the sought-after preamp of this vintage magnetic delay, offering warmth, saturation, and a distinctively old-school sound that only a Class-A triode tube emulation can provide. With easy-to-use controls and modern enhancements, PSP BinAmp is ideal for adding richness to drums, vocals, electric keyboards, and much more.
New unique features added for the modern producer include a preamp Character control, Polarization buttons for the input and output, parameter filtering for smooth and click-free adjustments, and a unique adjustable Variation function between channels and separate instances of the plug-in. A high-pass filter lets you tame low-end rumble and a high-frequency roll-off control lets you smooth out the high-end response. You also get ±20 dB of drive level control and output level control, and a -20 dB input pad. High-quality DSP algorithms are used for internal quad sampling up to 192 kHz, enhancing even low sample rates, plus support for sample rates up to 384 kHz, and only 13 samples of latency, regardless of sample rate. This plug-in is available in AAX, AU, VST, and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows computers.

The Echorec 2 (in Italian, Echorec 2º meaning The Second Echorec) was one of a line of famous magnetic drum delays designed and built by Binson Amplificatori Hi-Fi S. p. A. since the 1950s. The Echorec 2 was released in 1960, and is considered by many to be the best-sounding in the line. It had unprecedented quality compared to the tape delays of the era, with a warm and musical sound due to the distinctive character of its Class-A triode tube design.
Although the Echorec 2 was incredible for many reasons, the inspiration for PSP BinAmp came from the ingenious design and wonderful sound of its preamplifier. This easy-to-use plug-in provides rich, easily controllable saturation that sounds great on everything from drums and vocals to electric pianos, synthesizers, and drum loops.
PSP BinAmp can be used on individual tracks or whenever its strong vintage character is required:
- Kick, snare, and other drum tracks
- Vocals
- Drum loops
- Electromechanical keyboards (Rhodes, Clavinet, Wurlitzer, etc.)
- Electronic keyboards and synthesizers, especially digital instruments
- Reamplififed guitar and bass tracks
- Any other track that would benefit from old-school character
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Which Rolls preamps are battery powered?
A: NO LO SE
Q: 2. Is there room for a hand warmer?
A: Yes.
Q: 3. can this be repurposed and used to pre amp a playback tape head? i know this is unconventional but i just need it to work. HELP!
A: The Rolls MP13 is a mic preamp so it is designed to receive a mic level signal but the output from the playback tape head is a line level signal. It could work, as long as you can control the output level from the tape head so it does not overload the input of the preamp, unless that is the desired effect that you wish to achieve.
Q: 4. Will this work to power and amplify a condenser mic fed into a 3-way line splitter, specifically a Whirlwind SP1X3LL?
A: The Rolls MP13 is able to power a condenser mic and the output can be connected to a splitter such as the Whirlwind SP1X3LL. The MP13 however only offers 36v of phantom power and would not be recommended for mics who require a full 48v. Many mics are able to operate at a range of voltages from 9v - 52v and you should check your mics requirements before purchase.
Q: 5. Can I plug in a thumb drive to this unit and record vinyl directly on to the thumb drive? I ask so that I can use the the drive drive in my auto to listen to vinyl lps.
A: No
Q: 6. will this work with a phono level turntable without a preamp?
A: Yes--this IS a preamp. It has RCA jacks IN (left and right stereo) and preamp OUT (also RCA jacks). And USB OUT to your computer. And headphone OUT with a volume control in order to monitor. It is a standard stereo mini jack (3.5mm), not 1/4 inch. The headphone level control does not affect the level of the USB out. You can also select Phone or Line INPUT on the front panel, with a GAIN control. I use it to record from a turntable with magnetic cartridge to my MAC computer, while I monitor the audio from the turntable with a stereo headset. Works like a charm.
Q: 7. Will this boost an XLR signal a further distance? I have a cable run of ~250ft and am trying to assure that I don't lose a signal.
A: The Rolls Mini-Mic Preamp is not really designed for boosting signal on a long cable run. For ~250 feet, you should use high quality shielded audio cables to avoid signal loss and if you do need to increase the gain without adding noise, you might want to try the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (B&H # CLCL1) which improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs.
Q: 8. How much power does this draw?
A: Rolls does not specify. It is very low ()14-24 VDC. Please refer to the schematic below:a href= http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89467.pdf target= _blank http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89467.pdf/a
Q: 9. Can this be re-purposed to be used from an XLR out from the back of my amp (Peavy Vypyr Pro 100) to patch headphones in to monitor the signal being sent from the amp to the mixer board on the bands PA system?
A: If your amp is a XLR Mic level output yes. It will take Line level out also but it will take much less boost to power the headphones. If it is speaker level out you may blow out the preamp.
Q: 10. When we record with Audacity it only records one side of the speaker on both tracks, ignoring the other side, meaning it is not stereo and only one side of the track can be heard. What is the problem, usb cable or usb output port from the preamp?
A: Check your computer settings - assuming Windows, go to Control Panel-Hardware and Sound-Sound-Recording. Select the USB Audio CODEC and click Properties, then Advanced. Make sure the Default Format is 2-channel. I do this every time I want to record something - most times the setting will be remembered, but every so often it will revert to 1-channel. Very annoying if I've recorded 5 albums before I notice!
