Q: 1. My Canon 5DIII has clean HDMI output, but if I connect to a DVI input it jumps out of clean HDMI out and mirrors my back screen. Will this device trick the camera to believe it's a normal HDMI that is connected to, while the output used is HDMI with DVI adapter ?What does the DECIMATOR do with EDID ?My plan:5DIII HDMI cable DECIMATOR HDMI cable HDMI to DVI adapter DVI input ProjectorThanks !

A: Not used it on Canon 5D, but i can tell you from the Nikon experience that yes, the scaler will legalize your signal to match your projector device. The reason of your behavior is because of the DVI adapter-is not in sync with the type of signal your camera outputs. The Decimator will correct that.

Q: 2. I'm currently using a BM HDMI to SDI to get a Mac from a lectern to video world. The BM ATEM will not accept 60Hz over SDI. Can I use this instead of the BM converter to get HDMI @ 60 out of the Mac and convert it to SDI @ 59.94 for SDI input?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Mac can spit out 1080p at 60 (3G), and the Decimator can scale to 1080i at 59 (or anything else). Plus with firmware v1.3 and v1.4, you can even genlock the SDI output (1line delayed). This is a great, well made box that does a great number of things.

Q: 3. Can the MD-HX convert higher than average framerates, I.E. 120/240/480 down to much lower ones like 30 or 24 fps? I understand that this can act as a framerate converter, but is there a max to how high of a framerate it can convert? Thanks!

A: This small box is just meant for conversion of basic frame rates and for HDMI/SDI conversion. It cannot handle frame rates over 60FPS.

Q: 4. We have all 4 SDI inputs occupied in our ATEM Production Studio 4K. Does this unit have problem converting HDMI coming from an matrix to HDMI input in the ATEM? Right now I can't get signal straight from the matrix even when setting the input in the matrix to the ATEM's configuration 576i@50 or 1080i@50 or 59.94I noticed all comments use this for converting to HD-SDI before the switcher; would there be problems going HDMI to HDMI scalled to an BM ATEM Prodution Studio 4K? Thank you!

A: I have not had a problem scaling anything from hdmi or hd-Sdi to either with these boxes. I have 20 of them. I have however had input issues with BM hardware and often have to try multiple versions of firmware for various option to work. Are you saying your matrix to decimator isnt showing up as an input in the MD-HX? Does it work going direct out to a monitor? Does the monitor give you the connection details?

Q: 5. Will this save settings? I want to use this to feed a teleprompter. If I enable the horizontal image flip, can I save the setting so that it flips the image after a power cycle?

A: Yes it saves settings. I set ours to convert from i50 to i60 and it remembered after a powercycle even though you never save the setting.

Q: 6. Can this item convert 1080i to 1080p and if it does, is there a frame delay. Guessing a couple of frames but not sure?

A: If you input 1080i/60 then output 1080p/30, then there are no no frame drops. Interlaced traces out all the odd lines on the first pass then traces out all the even lines on the second pass, therefore i/60 is essentially the same frame rate as p/30. It has to wait for the first pass of interlaced to finish and start the second pass before it can start outputting the assembled whole frame in progressive scan. Therefore, the delay is at least half of a frame and less than a full frame.

Q: 7. How clean will it deinterlace? I need to convert a 1080 60i hdmi out from a camera to 1080 30p, will the recorded signal look a clean 30p? meaning no interlace artifacts?

A: The quality of conversion of interlaced footage to progressive partly depends on the footage. However the MD-HX does have a very high quality deinterlacing algorithm comparable with products several times its price point and is relied upon for this daily by broadcasters and video professionals worldwide.

Q: 8. I need to convert HDMI to HDMI with a different frame rate (1080p24 to 1080i60). Will this work?

A: Yes, you can convert frame rates when going HDMI to HDMI.

Q: 9. will this convert 1080i 59.94 to 1080i 50?

A: Yes it is possible and it worksBut I just try it on SDI input to SDI output and HDMI outputI does not try it on HDMI inputGreetings

Q: 10. will this unit upconvert 1024x768 to 720 and 1080 video formats?

A: Yes. It takes whatever input it sees and allows you to decide the output resolution with frame rate i.e on a Mac, taking 60hz and outputting 59.94.

I think they are the same as the ones that came with my binoculars, which got lost in a rainstorm. They will keep the dust and rain out of my eyepieces.

Zeiss binoculars are durable but added protection with Zeiss Eyepiece Rainguard is the best for my Zeiss products. A simple eyepiece scratch and follow-up repair could easily be $300+.... I know from my experience with eyepiece scratch repairs
I am glad these are now in stock at B&H, ordered two.
