With an expansive 185° angle of view, the Canon RF-mount 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens from AstrHori is an all-manual lens capable of producing unique perspectives and creative distortions. It's particularly well-suited for capturing the starry sky, thanks to its large f/2.8 aperture, which helps reduce noise in low-light conditions. With an optical design of 11 elements in 8 groups, this lens effectively combats image degradation at the edges and improves edge-to-edge sharpness. Waterproof multilayer coatings have been applied to individual glass elements to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. The lens has an all-metal body and features a built-in petal-shaped lens hood that also helps reduce flare while protecting the front element.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it be possible to adapt this to C mount? The focal length is wide enough that it sounds great for C mount super 8mm cameras. Do you have adapters from any of these mount options to C? And would the flange be off?

A: Unfortunately, we do not have any lens mount adapters designed to connect a lens designed for the Canon EF-M lens mount onto a camera that uses the C-mount lens mount.

Q: 2. Can this mount on my canon m50?

A: Yes you can! This lens is made to be mounted on the Canon mirrorless M mount cameras.

Q: 3. Is the lens hood removable?

A: Yes, the bayonet lens hood included with the Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Sony E Mount is removable. To connect the lens hood to the lens, you would align the attachment reference point on the hood with the hood reference point on the front of the lens, then push the lens hood onto the lens and turn the hood clockwise until it clicks into place. To remove the lens hood from the lens, you would simply reverse the process.

Q: 4. I will use that lens on a Fujifilm x-T2. I understood that the resultant image will be fully or partially circular, with a black part alla around. I will use it for panoramic and get rid of the black part. What will be the megapixel size of the usable part (24mp minus the black) ? Thanks

A: When using the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for FUJIFILM X, your useable megapixel size will be about 30% less (approx 16 MP).

Q: 5. I plan to use it for 360° Virtual Tours in a Nikon D810. If I shoot vertical i will get 180° top to bottom and what angle i cover for the sphere horizontally?

A: Technically, If you take one shot vertically, then rotate 180, and take another, that would give you a 360 view. To make it more seamless, I would take 4-6 shots and stitch them using a 360 stitching software to reduce distortion and provide more detail.

Q: 6. Does this lens give a rectangular or circular image on Sony A7 series cameras?

A: The lens on a full frame camera is not round. It has distortion as all fisheye lenses share.

Q: 7. Will this work on a Canon R5? How much of the sensor would the circular image use actually fill?

A: The Canon R5 will be automatically set to Crop mode if you mount the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Canon RF on it, so you would use only an APS-C size part of the full-frame sensor. The lens will make a circular image surrounded by black in this small section of the sensor.

Q: 8. Any known issues using on a Nikon Z6 with the FTZ adapter

A: All known issues with the FTZ adapter and the Z6 were addressed in a firmware update.

Q: 9. does it vignette on canon 5d Mark III?

A: not at all! this lens is made for full frames and fills the entire shot without any cut-off or deep vignetting. i have a mk iii and even at 2.8 its great!

Q: 10. Will this work on a Sony a7R3?

A: The answer is technically yes. This lens will fit on your Sony but it's made to work on Sony APS-C/cropped sensor cameras. So if you put this on a full frame you're going to get a cropped sensor/APS-C framing and lower resolution.
