With an expansive 185° angle of view, the Nikon Z-mount 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens from AstrHori is an all-manual lens capable of producing unique perspectives and creative distortions. It's particularly well-suited for capturing the starry sky, thanks to its large f/2.8 aperture, which helps reduce noise in low-light conditions. With an optical design of 11 elements in 8 groups, this lens effectively combats image degradation at the edges and improves edge-to-edge sharpness. Waterproof multilayer coatings have been applied to individual glass elements to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. The lens has an all-metal body and features a built-in petal-shaped lens hood that also helps reduce flare while protecting the front element.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. My first time buying a fisheye lens. If I purchase the Vello Deluxe Auto Focus Extension Tube and attach it to a Rokinon 12mm Fisheye; will the lens have auto-focus capacity on my a6300?

A: This is a manual focus lens. I just manually set the aperture at F4-F8 most of the time. I lately have just left gaffers tape on the lens with it set on F 8 which gives a depth of field of half a meter to infinity. I then just adjust the shutter speed and ISO depending on what my histogram, blinkies and LCD screen shows.

Q: 2. How many frames per second can I get with this lens when mounted on the Sony A9?

A: That depends on how many fps got your camera. Not the lens

Q: 3. Hi guys, do you know how much the angle of view may vary in am APS-C format?

A: The AstrHori 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens (Nikon Z) has a 95° angle of view on a camera with an APS-C size sensor.

Q: 4. I have a lensbaby 5.8 and it gives me the full circle image on Canon full frame, but it doesnt take up the entire frame. Will this 12mm still give me the entire circle image or will some of the circle be outside of the image frame?

A: It is not a circular fisheye. You can get a full circle image with this Canon lens: https://bhpho.to/334mi92

Q: 5. Why does this lens have a 180 degree angle of view and my Sigma 12-24 only have 122?

A: because the rokinon is a prime lens and has less elements than the sigma 12-24 zoom. If you are using either lens with a crop sensor it will decrease the field of view

Q: 6. Will this 12mm FF lens operate similar to the 19.2mm APS-C equivalency, if I have it hooked up to my metabones speedbooster utlra 0.71x / GH4 combo?

A: If you are referring to the full-frame equivalent angle of view/focal length of the lens, when using the Metabones T Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter and adding the 2x crop factor of the Micro Four Thirds sensor, the Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount would have a full-frame equivalent focal length of approximately 17mm. As such, it would be wider than a 19.2mm lens.

Q: 7. What is the difference between the ED AS IF NCS UMC and the ED AS NCS Lenses, also how do you know if the lens has an AE chip? Of course this is the Nikon mount lens.

A: You know the lens has AE chip because the camera will provide focus confirmation and auto metering. As for difference, I am not sure there is much, just depends on the type of lens and the elements required to correct various aberrations etc. I don't put too much stock into all the blurb they put on there. At the end of the day what matters is how well the lens performs.

Q: 8. Has anyone tried stitching 360 panos in ptgui with images from this lens? did you have any abnormal problems getting the images to stitch properly?

A: I use this lens with my d810 to stitch 360 panos in PTGui with no problems. This Rokinon is super sharp, especially closed down to F8-F11 and I can highly recommend it

Q: 9. Will this work on the D800? even as a non-cpu lens. Can you verify this please.. thanks

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the D800.

Q: 10. What is the difference between Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Nikon F Mount with AE Chip" and the lens Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Nikon F Mount with AE Chip?

A: No different in build and quality
