Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Warning to anyone buying! There's a really strong chemical/factory smell after opening the door, how can I remove this? Can it take damage any camera electronics?

A: When using the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (120L), it would be a good idea to air the cabinet out by keeping the door open a bit for a few hours so when you open the cabinet it will no longer smell as much. But the odor is not going to damage any camera electronics.

Q: 2. Can this unit be used in an outdoor (covered) environment?

A: I live near the Atlantic Ocean where any metal object left exposed to outdoor air will rust. Considering the cost of the unit you are purchasing, I would keep it in a temperature controlled area inside.

Q: 3. Is there a way to calibrate the humidity and/or temperature settings on the display? I have used a digital thermometer humidity gauge and an alcohol thermometer to check both: the humidity setting appears to be -5% off (35% instead of 40%, the recommended setting for lenses) and the temp is +3 F off. Too much of a +/- error for my taste.

A: I did not see any calibration instructions in the manual. The temperature in my house is 76 degrees on my thermostat and a digital thermometer. The display on my cabinet says 78 degrees and I have the AC vent closed to that room so I would expect a 2 degree difference. I have my cabinet set at 35% humidity. I live in Minnesota so it's not like our weather is wet like in Florida or dry as in Arizona. However, over the last week we had dewpoints in the high 70's and temps in the 94+ range so it's been tropical to say the least. I use my cabinet for humidity control and for storage as a clean room and only take out the gear I need rather than keeping everything in my bag. If you are sure your testing devices are accurate you can simply make the conversion and set the cabinet accordingly. The price is right for this cabinet.

Q: 4. Is there a temperature control? If so, what is the temperature range?

A: There is no temperature control in this cabinet.

Q: 5. Are the interior dimensions listed for length, width, and height?

A: The Interior Dimensions are listed as follows 17.7 x 12.9 x 21.1" / 45 x 32.9 x 53.5 cm

Q: 6. Does it keep out odor from outside environment? like smoke?

A: I have mine outside smells, but so far inside I smell the smell of the first day.

Q: 7. Can the 50L fit a canon 70-200mm?

A: Yes, the Ruggard EDC-50L Electronic Dry Cabinet (Black, 50L) will fit a Canon 70-200. A 70-200 lens is usually 8 inches long and the 50L is 11 inches wide so it will fit.

Q: 8. I live in a city where humidity is around 75%. I have set the dehumidifier to 35% but it never gets to that percentage. It always stops around 39% and it can take up to 4/5 hours to get from 45 to 39%. And sometimes the humidity percentage goes up on its own. Is that normal?

A: Yes, it is normal for the Ruggard EDC-50L Electronic Dry Cabinet (50L) and pretty much all Dry Cabinets to take that long to lower the humidity it. And with the humidity outside at around 75% that is normal to not to get as low you as that and 39% is actually very good for one of these.

Q: 9. Can this be used to "bake" analog tapes that the surface of the tapes become sticky and then gum-up the tapes heads and the tape won't play. It's usually done at 130 degrees for a few hours. ?

A: Unfortunately, the EDC-80L hasn't been tested for this specific use. The results may vary.

Q: 10. Kirk of B&H responded that air filters should be changed every 3 years. Where can I buy a replacement air filter?

A: The Ruggard EDC-80L-WO Electronic Dry Cabinet (Weathered Oak, 80L) does not have filters that need to be replaced; It uses electronic dehumidifiers that remove humidity by electricity.

These cabinets are very well made and provide a safe place to store your lenses and cameras, while making sure that your gear is not subjected to wide swings in humidity whennot in use. I highly recommend these cabinets.

I live in a high humidity area and this case really worked wonders this summer. I actually wish I would have purchased the next size up...with this has a lot of room. Great price when I bought it.

Pros:
Storage my gears at the right temperature.
Cons:
I wish they have better-LED light inside the cabinet. The LED light is so ugly to display.

The build quality is great and includes the foam liners for the trays. I wasn't expecting the foam to be anything worthwhile but it is in fact very good! Even includes one foam tray liner that has curved cut outs to hold your long lenses from rolling side to side. Fits all of my gear plus a little room for a couple of backup drives. Great to keep your gear dry and easy to get to when it's time to load up and go shoot. Pull out drawers are a nice touch on this cabinet as well but you have to have the door all the way open or you'll catch the rubber gasket with the edge of the drawer. This could easily be remedied by having the rubber gasket on the cabinet itself instead of the door but that's a minor design issue in my book.

Good way to store the gear -visible- instead of having it hidden in photo bags and the cabinet makes it easier to choose the needed lenses for the particular task of the day.

The Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (80L) is one of those things I didn't know I needed. While I do not reside in a region with highly fluctuating humidity, what drew me to this dry cabinet were several things - being able to store my gear in one place vs. strewn about across multiple bags, and storing my gear in a clean, dust-free environment.

The cabinet delivered assembled and was packaged quite impeccably for a safe delivery. This design is sleek and I've opted to leave the door handle on the interior (as delivered) to keep the front of the cabinet looking very clean. The design is nearly perfect. The only modification I would make is to have the LED light strip go around the entire interior. As others have mentioned, the lights are only on one side of the cabinet, so it will cast a rather strong shadow from right to left. Other than that, the only regret is not buying one years ago.

I've had the 50L working for a couple of weeks. I put a small humidistat inside to cross check the percentage against Ruggard's readout. I set the Ruggard at 35% and it consistently reads that. The inside meter reads 31%. Excellent!

My Canon EOS R6 with 24-70L lens attached easily fits on middle shelf with room at the right.

On the top shelf are 6 lenses: a 70-200 2.8 L, 2 tele extenders, and 3 smaller lenses. The bottom shelf holds an EOS 60D infra red with battery grip, its loupe and 2 small external hard drives.

It functions great, consistent as I said. The setup is very easy.

It came quickly and as many reviewers stated extremely well packaged. My wife was a packaging engineer. She gave it an A++.

Very satisfied.
