Sound Devices Mixassist Plug-in For Mixpre-3 Ii
- Product Code: ga140980
-
Ideal for podcasts, scripted or unscripted dialogue, panel discussions, house-of-worship applications, and more, MixAssist Plug-In for MixPre-3 II works by intelligently attenuating the gain of microphones that are not in use to reduce unwanted noise, feedback, and comb filter artifacts in multi-microphone applications. The result is a cleaner and more consistent recording. MixAssist automixes post-fade signals to the left and right buses and does not affect the prefade ISO tracks.
Download MixAssist to your computer and move it to your SD card. Insert the SD card in your MixPre-3 II and install the plug-in.

- For each microphone, an ever-changing and automatic threshold is continuously calculated. This per-channel threshold has a slow-attack and very fast decay.
- When an incoming microphone’s signal is instantaneously above this threshold it can be turned on. Steady-state sounds (air conditioning, etc.) will not turn on a microphone—only varying speech-like signals does.
- The envelope of all microphone signals is logically compared together to get the instantaneous peak of the loudest microphone.
- Each microphone envelope is continuously compared to this Maxbus; if the envelope is greater (and it meets the NAT criteria), then it is gated on. If a talker speaks into two or more microphones, it will only gate on one of the microphones, eliminating any comb filtering.
- The last used microphone remains on, creating a seamless mix.
- When a microphone is turned off, it does not turn all of the way off, instead it is attenuated by a certain amount, typically 15 dB. This results in a more transparent sound.
- You can use MixAssist at sampling rates of 44.1, 47.952, 48, and 48.048 kHz, and at either 24-bit or 32-bit float bit depth.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is this compatible with the new mark II line? Like the MixPre-3ii?
A: Yes it is.
Q: 2. Any problem of loose contact pin in this model as official Sound Device product? ( as it seems white labeled Hawkwood SD2, which has some people hase solder burning complaints )
A: I have heard no complaints on the build quality of this sled. Sound Devices makes exceptionally high quality equipment.
Q: 3. I'm trying to use this MX-LMount battery sled on the MixPre-10 II and getting flashing red ring LEDs on all tracks when powering it on, with either a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries attached, or a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries attached. MixPre-10 II already has L-Mount selected as battery type in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. No other batteries/power sources are connected. I'm using an approved SD card that has been formatted in the MixPre-10 II. Any idea what could be causing this issue?
A: We're glad you were able to resolve the issue.
Q: 4. will this fit the Tascam DR-70D?
A: Yes, the ORCA OR-270 Sound Bag will accommodate the size of the Tascam DR-70D 6-Input / 4-Track Multi-Track Field Recorder.
Q: 5. I'm primarily interested in using the MixPre as an audio interface. Will a MacBook Pro provide enough power over USB-C or not?
A: Yes, the Sound Devices MixPre-6 II 6-Channel / 8-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder can be bus-powered by a MacBook Pro.
Q: 6. Does this work as well with the MixPre-3 II?
A: Yes it does.
Q: 7. Is this battery sled made of metal? From the reviews of the earlier, double L battery mount from Sound Devices, I’d be hesitant to shell out almost three times more money for this one if it is still made of plastic.
A: Thank you for asking. This device is made of plastic, but its form factor is considerably different than that of the MX-LMOUNT.
Q: 8. What L Batteries are compatible? Some are ripped apart by the oversized pins.
A: I didn't want to mess around and went with the Sony NP-F970 battery (even though it is not the cheapest option) with this adapter. It has worked flawlessly without any issues. Two years on the road and we haven't had any issues with power using that battery.
Q: 9. Is there a voltage regulator inside or does ist pass through voltage/current from the 7,2v l-mount battery?
A: Voltage regulation not needed with Sony l type batteries it’s designed for those
Q: 10. Hi, I was curious what size/capacity of L-mount batteries this sled can accommodate? The photo here looks like it can use the larger/higher capacity batts, but the image of this sled on the Sound Devices site uses the smaller, lower capacity batts. Any observations? Many thanks!
A: It works fine with any capacity battery. Just keep in mind that the larger the capacity and physical size of the battery, the more awkward the MixPre may get on a tabletop or a bag, because the batteries stick out so far from the sides of the unit.
