A portrait-length prime featuring a compact design, the Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 DA DSM PRO Lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens's bright f/1.8 design suits working in low-light conditions and also enables increased control over depth of field for isolating subject matter. The optical design incorporates low dispersion and high reflective lens elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing, and balancing the optics is a DSM autofocus system, which promotes fast and quiet focusing performance to suit both photo and video applications.

The lens barrel is made with precision-machined aviation-grade aluminum alloy for durability and long life. The lens features a function selection switch that allows the main ring to control focus or aperture, and a large OLED screen displays aperture status in large, easy-to-read numbers. A weatherproof seal keeps dust and water from entering the camera. The lens also has a USB-C port for installing firmware upgrades for any future camera designs.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you use this lens with a nikon d3100?

A: Yes it can. I am able to use it on my D3000 and my D3300.

Q: 2. Hi!It is compatible with a canon eos rebel T2i?

A: On Amazon it says that the lens is for rebel series camera so it should be fine with T2i.

Q: 3. Will this work with the Canon EOS 80D?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Canon 80D.

Q: 4. Does this lens use a STM or USM motor?

A: These use something similar to Canon's Micromotor USM. Micromotors are also an older, lower cost type of motor for autofocus lenses. The mechanics of a micromotor is an electric motor driving a gear train. They tend to make a little more noise than a USM. It's less suitable for video but takes sharp photos.

Q: 5. What lens cap would be the best to replace for the previous lens cap since I lost it

A: You can use any 52mm cap such as this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/807037-REG/Sensei_lc52_52mm_Center_Pinch_Snap_On.html

Q: 6. Wil this lens work with the Rebel T5?

A: Perfectly, canon mount match.

Q: 7. Probably a dumb question... I’m new to the camera scene .... but would this lease be compatible with the Black magic Pocket 4K? Or would I need to buy some sort of adapter?

A: You would need an adapter such as this Commlite: https://bhpho.to/3wy4kLg But adapting lenses can be problematic. I would recommend buying this 45mm Olympus lens instead: https://bhpho.to/3dEI0XP

Q: 8. What range of wavelengths of light LESS THAN 400 nm does this lens transmit at least 50% of? At least 25% of?

A: Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not rate the lens for IR absorptance. However, as there is no IR coating, such near IR in particular should be expected to pass with little attenuation.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with rebel sl1?

A: Yes. It's an EF mount lens so it should be compatible with the SL1.

Q: 10. How would this compare to the Sony 50mm 1.8?

A: The Sony 50mm f1.8 lens is much higher in quality and currently lower in price than the Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8S DF DSM Lens for Sony E.

Brought it for a friend which use it on a Canon T2i. She love using it for portrait. She isn't a professional but there are nice picture coming out from it. The lens sometimes struggle with autofocus but she doesn't seem to bother too much. For the price, to try 50mm prime, it's great.

I really wanted an 85mm for portrait shooting, but for the cost you just can't beat this guy. I haven't used the Canon 50mm, but feel it definitely gets the job done! Great lil lens. It's stayed on my camera since I bought it.

For $50 this lense is well worth it! A true nifty fifty! Just keep in mind if you have an APS-C sensor the lense will be closer to 80mm!

For those not too familar with photography principles. This 50mm lens has a very wide aperture (aka fast) f/1.8@50mm at a great price.

This has allowed me to take cool pictures in low light situations (like haloween & XMAS decorations) at a shutter speed where you do not need a tripod (1/10sec). Note you must change your cameras ISO to around 4000 to do this but at least on the D5600 the pictures are not too grainy at this setting.

The other cool thing about a fast lense like this is you can take nice pictures of birds that freezes there wings (and other motion in flight) as you can still get good exposures during the day at 1/1000sec without a speed light.

Many other unique things can be done with a fast lense like this.

On the D5X00 series cameras this 50mm lens is a moderate tele so for an object at 50ft distance the field of view is about 35ft wide.

Autofocus works fine as well as manual focus override. Is a bit big but not very heavy for such a wide aperature.

Overall great lens to accompany the slow wide to moderate tele zoom lense that likely came with your camera.

It has its flaws - it's super plastic-y and feels like a toy, the focus motor sounds like an RC car, and maybe it isn't as sharp as the Canon 50mm f/1.8 it copies.

But it's also super cheap. I'm a hobbyist who mainly shoots street and landscape (on a crop sensor camera), but when I'm having fun with friends, this delivers portraits that look perfectly fine on social media. The bokeh looks very good. It's also just fun to work with the limitations of this lens. The lack of image stabilization has also been a challenge since I'm spoiled by IS in all my other lenses.

Ultimately, this is a toy and is priced as one. If you need quality and reliability, buy the Canon. If you absolutely need to get the shot every time, buy a lens with better autofocus and image stabilization. If you want fun on the cheap, or if you want to wean yourself off electronic assists, this lens delivers.

As a a side note, the aperture iris gets stuck at f/1.8 when the temperature drops below freezing.I can safely say my copy does not work at 14F/-10C, but I have no idea where issues actually begin. This isn't my only lens affected by the recent cold spell in NYC though, and the others are more expensive so no penalty from me.
