Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is EarTec p/n: MXS4XLR/F compatible with PortaCom systems?
A: The Eartec #MXS4XLR/F Max 4G headset is compatible with current Portacom systems.
Q: 2. I need to plug the adapter into my mixer. Is the clip removable?
A: Yes. The clip is removable.
Q: 3. Is there a way to get more gain out of the mic? Like a cloud lifter? When going into a black magic atem tv 4k it is very quite.
A: Yes, you will be able to control the level for the microphone on the Eartec Max 4G Single Headset when using the Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K. The ATEM TV includes controls to adjust the audio level for a microphone connected to the headset input.
Q: 4. Will this connect to to Motorola T80?
A: No it will not. The T-80 is a single connector radio.
Q: 5. Can I use this with a Shure 47 or Sanken COS11D Lav that has a microdot connector? If not, what is the best solution, please. Thanks
A: Any microphone with the Microdot connector is expecting a DC bias level to bias the electret capsule. Normally the microdot connector of a bodypack will have approx 5 V DC bias. This DPA adapter is not just a simple resistive divider - it has a complete circuit board with biasing circuit and buffer amplifier to drive long mic cables. I measured 8 V open-circuit, and 2.5 V with my DPA 4066 headset connected. This leads me to believe that the final DC voltage level will depend on the bias current drawn by the specific brand/model of electret mic you connect to it (but it will never exceed 8 V). So, although I have not tested the particular models you mentioned, I believe that any microphone with a microdot connector can be used with this adapter without risk of damage. This is certainly a very nicely-made adapter with no expense spared on the circuit from what I can see.
Q: 6. would phantom power from a cinema camera power this microphone unit or would you need mixer/recorder?
A: Yes, this will work with any pre-amp that supplies 12v - 48v. If your camera has the option to switch the Phantom down to 12v, you should do so and save a little battery life.
Q: 7. so this is the adapter needed for "DPA Microphones 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone" when connecting to Zoom F3?
A: Since there are two Microdot output connectors on the DPA Microphones 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone, two of the DPA Microphones DAD6001 Microdot to 3-Pin XLR Adapters are required to connect the DPA 4560 mic to the XLR inputs on the Zoom F3 Portable Field Recorder. You will need to turn on phantom power for the two inputs on the recorder for the mics to receive power.
Q: 8. It says works with wireless system, but I assume it works with a wiree system since there is a cable?
A: The Eartec Max 4G Single Headset with 4-Pin XLR Female Connector can be used with a wireless beltpack receiver or with a wired intercom base station that requires a 4-pin XLR female connector.
Q: 9. How does one go about the actual wiring process between the microdot connection and the xlr?
A: Simply plug the microdot on one end, and the XLR on the other, the adapter is inside.
Q: 10. Will this headset work with the Blackmagic design constellation 2 m/e switcher?
A: Yes, the Eartec Max 4G Single Headset with 5-Pin XLR Male Connector is compatible for use with the Blackmagic Design ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD Live Production Switcher.
