Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the dimensions of the laptop compartment? Will this bag hold a 16" M1 MacBook Pro?

A: The Vanguard The ALTA RISE 48 Backpack (Black) is a touch too small for the 16" M1 MacBook Pro. The computer is 14.01 x 9.77" and the backpack's largest side for the computer is 11.75".

Q: 2. How many pro series zoom and primes along with flashes etc can I fit? How many have you fit?

A: 2 Nikon D5 bodies; 1 D810 body; 14-24; 24-70; 70-200; 200-400; 3 SB910 flashes; 24 f1.4; 58 f/1.4; 80 f/1.4; 180 f/2.8. I also have the top lid organizer which holds a flash meter, batteries for both D5 and D810 cameras; tools, lens backs and camera body caps, notepads, pens and other small items. It holds a lot of stuff. This is in the back of my car, secured with a padlock and cabled to the D hooks attached to the body of the car.

Q: 3. Can this fit 2 (TWO) Godox Dp400III strobes? (B&H# GODP400III)

A: Yes, the Pelican 1650NF Case without Foam is large enough to hold two of the Godox DP400III 400Ws Professional Studio Flash.

Q: 4. The tubes don't fit over the mating part on the shelves hardly at all. I wouldn't trust putting any equipment on the cart until this is fixed. How do you suggest fixing this problem?

A: Everything we ship to you is insured. It should be in proper working order. Claims for missing items, defective items, or items damaged in transit must be received within two business days of receipt of merchandise. If you have received damaged or defective merchandise, our Customer Service department will arrange return and replacement at no cost to you. If you are just not pleased with the design or construction, Luxor may have a way to help you with this.

Q: 5. Does the divider from the upper part of the backpack - where the slots for SD cards are - come off or is it stitched there?

A: the yellow dividers are removable the sd pockets are stitched in

Q: 6. How is the Alta Rise 48 as a carry on item on a plane? Will it fit under the seat or in the overhead?

A: Definitely fits on the plane in overhead and under the seat . Love the bag very roomy inside but not very big on the outside .

Q: 7. Whilst I am confident of the durability of the case itself, is the foam enough padding to protect DSLRs and lens from rough handling at an airport? Eg if the case was thrown/dropped by baggage handlers, will camera bodies and lens be unaffected?

A: Yes this would protect the equipment inside very well, I would recommend leaving roughly 1-2 inches of foam around the outside just for peace of mind, but I have had no issues with any of my equipment being damaged with these rolling through airports.

Q: 8. Is this bag waterproof? Or does it need a rain cover to make it waterproof?

A: The Vanguard The ALTA RISE 48 Backpack is not a waterproof camera bag, so the case cannot be submerged underwater, though the case is weather resistant. Also, for protection against inclement weather, the case includes a full rain cover.

Q: 9. Is this bag waterproof or does it need a raincoat?

A: The included rain cover would help with the waterproofing.

Q: 10. For the 1654 version with dividers, is there some foam at the bottom of the case? I guess I should ask, what is on the bottom of this case to cushion my lenses? Thank you for your help!

A: The bottom is padded. It's not foam but kind of a heavier padded divider.

I needed a bag that would allow me to travel with my Gitzo Explorer tripod and, frankly, wasn't expecting too much for the price. This bag is made well, secures the tripod inside the padded case with straps, and has a place for a couple of heads. In short, it was a nice surprise for the money.

I've used this bag on two separate travel shoots now, and both times I've been able to use it as my "personal item" in addition to my roll-aboard carry-on suitcase, into which I fit my speedlights and my compact 26" Westcott Rapid Box along with a few changes of clothes. I tell you, being able to have a portable studio set-up (including a collapsing 8' lightstand and a 5' tripod) without having to check a bag is amazing!!! I would definitely recommend this bag for your smaller stands and tripods even if you're just wanting to store them together. I will certainly now just use this bag for my on-location work in and around New York City. Really pleased with the build quality, especially of the detachable strap and loops onto which it buckles. The outside pouch is also surprisingly spacious. There is also a movable velcro separator in the outside pouch. On the other side of the bag is a slot to stick your business card or a contact card if your bag is misplaced in transit or left somewhere. Ruggard's made a good product in this bag! I highly recommend it.

Had a Manfrotto wilderness tripod and 501 head for many years that came with a well built Manfrotto case. I recently bought a Nitrotech N8 head and the tripod no longer fit in the case.

I searched for a reasonably priced case that would comfortably fit the new setup without being huge. This bag fit the bill.

It's been a long time since I bought equipment this well made. Heavy duty nylon material with a wide, strong zipper, straps inside to keep my tripod from moving around and padding so the tripod doesn't hurt my back. I wear it diagonally across my back. The carrying strap is wide enough to make wearing it like that comfortable. If you have a 27 or less tripod, you can put some small lens bags in the case too. The external pocket is large and holds lots of filters, etc.

Great case for my lite weight tripod. Fit was good and seems well made.

This started when I finally got a Smith-Victor ProPod video tripod base to go under my Manfrotto 128RC QR head, and I needed a bag to suitably carry and protect that rig, inexpensive as it is. So the 35 length is perfect, and while the leg end is a bit snug at first, its actually as if the bag has been made for the tripod, with its built-in strap loop to secure the larger, looser end. Theres a small pouch inside for wrenches and such, and a larger padded pocket with a moveable divider ... which Im sure will come in handy for something ... at some point. A sandwich, maybe. And condiments. Mmmm, condiments.

In addition, I have the center column extended about an inch to keep my 9.solutions savior clamp mini with articulating arm permanently attached.

My other tripod bag was not large enough, so I ordered this one.
It can fit 2 tripods with their heads attached in this bag.  I will keep this bag (and tripods) in the trunk of my car until I need the equipment.  I do not plan to carry this bag thru airports, etc.
One (lightweight Slik) tripod is fastened to the bottom of the bag with attached interior straps (which work very well).  The heavier (Sirui) tripod with pan/tilt head fit at the top.

The exterior pocket is very large and is used to carry my tripod accessories with ease.  (extra tripod legs, night headlamps, remote shutter release, small tools to attach or remove heads, etc.)

Bought this after losing original on a shoot - it was windy, I was in highest seats in football stadium blew off the back. Wanted one similar to a case provided with another tripod I had just purchased. Exceeded expectations and now I am thinking of replacing that one with another on of these. These are a lot more functional and provide more space. Great investment!

I was using a cheaper Ruggard case and was not especially happy with it -- it somehow got a tear in the fabric and the zipper side pocket was somewhat confining (zipper opening on the outside but pocket on the inside). This version has a larger and more useful external side pocket where I carry a couple of spare quick release plates and a waterproof stuff bag to slip over the camera in case of rain. It is well padded and has internal quick release straps to hold the tripod in place inside the case. I'm very happy that I made the upgrade.
