Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What size should I get for a Nikon 18-200 lens? The current screw-on filter says 72mm.

A: The 65-80 MM works perfectly on my Nikon with a 72mm lens cap. Since the camera will be pointing UP, it can't just fall off. As to folding the tabs, it doesn't matter which one you start with, just fold down the little tab on the left side first (looking at the word side). The little tab will be at a 45 degree angle, Makes it easier to get the big tab located on the adjacent right side into the notch, then fold the little tab back up to hold the right tab in place.During an eclipse, you want the filter to slip off/on super easy!

Q: 2. Can I use this to take photos of the sun for practice of the upcoming solar eclipse?

A: Yes. The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter can be used for solar photography with or without an eclipse.

Q: 3. Looking at the video, there does not appear to be any filter in front on the front element on the telephoto lense. Wouldn't you have to have a solar filter in front to keep from damaging the internal components of the telephoto lens? Should you use a Mylar solar sheet like I normally use for telephoto sun pictures.

A: You are right,it is called ERF(energy reflecting filter). I have ordered one with my Ha filter Aug 3 but has not arrived. So haven't been able to used the Ha filter.

Q: 5. What is the difference between a tuned for prominences and a chromosphere filter? Is there one of them that does both better? How do I choose?

A: No, two different condition. The chromosphere is the sun's surface. The prominence is viewing sun flairs around the perimeter of the sun. .

Q: 6. DayStar Filters Camera Quark H-alpha Solar Filter for Canon (Prominence): Does this provide product adequate filtration of the sun for the upcoming eclipse, or does it need to be used in consort with additional filters on camera/scope for viewing?

A: The DayStar Filters Camera Quark H-alpha Solar Filter for Canon (Prominence) goes between your lens and camera. You still need a ERF (energy reflecting filter) on the front of your lens. This will prevent damage to the lens. For help choosing a ERF (energy reflecting filter) for your lens email us at sportoptics@bandh.com.
