Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What size filters does this matte box hold? Shape has multiple swing away matte boxes, so I'm not sure which model this is.

A: The matte box included in the SHAPE Broadcast Pro Kit for Sony BURANO is the SHAPE Swing-Away Matte Box, BH #SHAKSWA, which is designed for 4 x 5.6" and 4 x 4" filters.

Q: 2. I'm reading that folks are not able to use this with their updated Mac OS. Is this the case? I have a Mac and am interested in this camera but don't want to get it if it won't work with my Mac. Thanks!

A: The Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera with the latest firmware currently works on the latest Apple macOS Monterey.

Q: 3. I'm planning to use this exclusively for Zoom calls. I just need to confirm that I can plug it in via USB (to either my iMac Pro or a USB wall charger), and that the camera will indeed remain powered and not shut off?

A: If you're connecting via USB, once setup with the proper software (Sony Imaging Edge Webcam) and the ZV-1 set to the proper settings (PC Remote), it should work as you need - but please note there are some limitations with that software and some versions of MacOS. So please confirm at (https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/webcam/en/) for more details and instructions.

Q: 4. What types of USB cable connections are there with the Sony ZV1?

A: The Sony ZV-1 only has 1 USB port on it and it's called a Micro USB Type B. Sony refers to it as a Multi USB.

Q: 5. Will this work for the FX6 top handle? to be able to have/mount the top handle off camera.

A: The MID49 EVF/LCD Extension Cable (Sony Burano, FX9, and FX6) is an extension for Sony's 40-pin monitor system found on recent cameras, including: Burano, FX9, FX6, FS7, FS7mkII, FS5, and FS5mkII. It only connects to the EVF/LCD and does not allow you to reposition the handle. Here's an optional offset adapter: the MID49 ARRI 3/8-16 to M4x20mm Offset Adapter (B&H # MI9CBLBK38M4), which is a grid of M4 holes spaced 20mm apart with a 3/8-16 screw and locating pins in ARRI spacing. The locating pins can be removed and repositioned if needed.

Q: 6. Does this camera have a full manual mode?

A: Yes it does have full manual mode. You can see here how to set it to full manual exposure. https://helpguide.sony.net/dc/1910/v1/en/contents/TP0002869960.html

Q: 7. zoom?

A: Yes, this camera will zoom from 28mm (in terms of full frame equivalency) to 70mm (also in terms of full frame equivalency). Groups, landscapes, self-portraits (A.K.A. "selfies"), and handheld self-vlogging would typically be shot at 28mm. You'd typically use 70mm to shoot portraits of friends or couples, or when you want to physically get closer to the subject, but cannot do so.

Q: 8. What are the dimensions of the lens if I want to attach a third party clip-on filter adapter?

A: According to Sony you are not able to add a filter to the front of this camera. We are not aware of what third party clip-on filters may way at this time.

Q: 9. Ok, so I own this camera, and just did my first Zoom meeting with it. Plugged in with it's USB cable to my iMac (installed the Sony Imaging Edge software, etc.) it works great and I get lots of compliments. HOWEVER, the battery drains very quickly. I got less than an hour out of it (I set the power off temp to "High", etc.). So, I don't see how I could use this camera continously for Zoom meetings with that kind of battery drain. Should I hook it up to a high-amp USB charger, and then use the HDMI out and go into my iMac that way (with something like a BluTec HDMI adapter on the iMac)?

A: You can operate this camera by USB power when there is a battery in the camera.

Q: 10. If I want to use this camera as a webcam via HDMI (I have video capture device), can I power it via USB-C or power adapter and do not use battery at all? I might be using the camera on Zoom calls for many hours and would rather not worry about the battery.

A: According to Sony, you can connect the ZV-1 with the included Micro USB cable to a USB wall adapter while the battery is inserted into the camera. One such adapter is the Xuma 2.4A USB Charger with Folding Prongs, BH # https://bhpho.to/3kCJpjO

This camera has everything I wanted and need. I didn't want to lug around a big or even medium sized DSLR, knowing I wouldn't take it with me most of the time. But the RX100Vll is a different story. I goes everywhere I go, I keep it in a little belt case where it's easily accessible. One of my needs was a screen whereby I could view myself for videos. As for the quality of the stills and video, both are excellent.

Great travel camera. One inch sensor good in low light. Easy to use. Excellent picture quality

Yes, it's expensive, and yes, it's no longer an f/1.8 at the wide end, but the added audio-in means it's now perfectly acceptable for using in tight situations or really any situation where getting the shot is the priority over it looking perfect. I bought this for a documentary (involving travel) to match with A7III's and I ended up using it as an A cam almost! Having a 24-200mm equivalent in that size is hard to beat, and it's got all the same picture profiles as recent Sony's and the autofocus system you get from the brand new A7RIV/A9II. I mean, it's crazy how well it matches in good light!
CONS: Not great in low light. Looks more like a smart phone if you don't have adequate lighting.
It's got no NDs! This sucks. You can buy a kit to make it accept screw-in filters, though, so it's not actually a huge deal.
Not constant aperture. Tough for video. Basically, this camera is for we just really need this shot even if it's a little raw
No headphone jack. Gotta just look at the meters and pray.
Needs a lot of light.
Pros: Has practically all the features of an A7III including Picture Profiles, slomo, autofocus (actually slightly better), and it matches perfectly.
Zoom range makes getting the shot basically guaranteed
it's tiny - fit in your pocket and take it anywhere tiny.
Finally has a 3.5mm audio jack!
The little multifunction ring can be programmed for almost any adjustment. I had mine set to either aperture or exposure compensation.
Great for both photo and video
Great dynamic range and resolution

I owned the RX100 mV and thought it was a fine camera. But I said I would upgrade when it had a longer zoom and a different means of popping out the viewfinder. My glasses kept pushing the viewfinder in and it was bothersome. So the VI came out and I thought about it since it answered both of my issues with the earlier model. But, I figured the V was working great and I had no real complaints so why rush? And now the VII is here and I am very pleased. In addition to the things I wanted it now has super fast focusing with eye focus and animal eye, has the mic input which is another thing I wanted. I've had it for just over al month now and it's a definite keeper. Great job Sony!

After shooting with full-frame cameras, the small body size took some time getting used too but the compact size and image quality is amazing from this little camera.

I love this little $1300 Sony RX100 VII camera and at this price it is almost equivalent to my $6000 Sony A7r IV camera with the same features. Excellent travel camera!

I've been a professional photojournalist for 40 years, used all the top-of -the-line models from both Nikon (limited to film) and Canon (up to the 1D Mark IV).
With few exceptions, such as needing a very long, 300mm or more, at f/2.8, lens, this camera can shoot ANY assignment a photojournalist is handed and do it with an image quality equaling or surpassing a top of the line full size DSLR. It has a learning curve you must master, but so does every high-end digital camera.

After 40 years shooting, having a camera of such immense capability, stunning image quality and in size and weight equivalent to large bar of soap, can't be beat. If you're a veteran shooter, remember the size and quality of the Leica rangefinders. This camera is on par with the Leica and easily meets the requirements, and in many instance, surpasses the uses of a D5 or 1Dx. Think: small, unobtrusive, amateur-looking to the common folk and able to produce a stunning, high quality digital file.
If you , like me, are at the point where you where to point your camera, and need not sport a huge DSLR with a equally large zoom, buy this camera. You will achieve what you see' by using this highly advanced digital camera.

I was thinking to buy a point and shoot camera since long time to carry in pocket. I can’t carry my big DSLR camera every ware and missing good opportunity. Now Sony has best point and shoot camera I was looking for, and bought this camera a month ago. I want to travel light. I'm a user of DSLR and until now almost no small cameras could compete with the fast focusing of DSLRs. Well now
this small wonder can! Really top quality images plush amazing fast, precise focusing. Of course the continuous Auto Focus, etc. I am not surprised. What makes this a truly great travel camera is the 24-200 mm zoom. I wanted a compact camera that would be easier to shoot with on the go or in smaller spaces. Glad that I have finally bought it;
the RX100 Vll is the best so far, so it is really worth the cost. Camera
menu was pretty easy to figure out. I would definitely recommend to
anyone like to buy camera like this.
