Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the main difference from the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens that costs a lot more?

A: The FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II has improved optics (significant difference in my personal opinion after I traded my original one from the II), it's 30% lighter, and has a better linear AF motor for improved speed and accuracy.

Q: 2. Hi does this replacement foot includes the 4 lens foot mounting screws like the wimberly one?

A: The Kirk Lens Foot for Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS and FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS Lenses includes four mounting screws in the box.

Q: 3. I just purchased this lens for use on my new Sony A7R III. Very heavy and hard to imagine using a camera shoulder strap that allows this lens to pull down on the camera? Damage to the camera? What solutions are there for straps while carrying this lens on the A7R while walking around? This is a new system for me. I just converted from Nikon D810. Thank you in advance.

A: I come from a Canon 5D world, moved into a Sony alpha 6500 for a lot of reasons, but weight and size were a big one. That being said, I have always used an over shoulder sling type that secures to the tripod connection point on base of camera body. It swivels and it can literally dangle behind you, hang and all of the weight is distributed up and over opposite should and it wont slip off.

Q: 4. Does the Optical Steady Shot also functions well when filming with e.g. the Sony Fs7? Does anyone have experience with that?

A: The Optical steady shot feature is compatible with the FS7.

Q: 5. Is this stable when using it handheld? For example is it good for indoor basketball?

A: it is stable as long as your are using 1/125 speed or higher.

Q: 6. does this lens focus manually as well as AF? I just got it and when I turn the focus ring I do not see any change in focus.

A: I think the answer to your most recent question is it depends , e.g.,If camera is set to AF-S and you use back button focusing with lock-on when you lift your thumb off the back button, then you can tweak manually. If you use shutter button (half press), and then, keeping it half pressed, tweak manually it may work.If you use AF-C the camera will override any tweak/s.If you set Direct Manual Focus (DMF), it will start as AF-S and then go to manual focus mode where you can tweak the focus -- it will stay in manual focus as long as you are in half press shutter button. DMF is even more helpful if you have set Peaking Level and Color.

Q: 7. does this lens feature internal focusing and internal zooming? Does it extend during zooming or does it remain the same length?

A: Internal focus and zoom. Little to no focus breathing either.

Q: 8. Difference between gm I and Gm ii

A: The GM2 version is lighter weight, 4 times faster in focus speed and has better edge to edge sharpness compared to the older Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens.

Q: 9. How durable is this lense in weather like rain or dust?

A: I've had it out for Friday Night Lights through many light mist to pouring rain circumstances. I do use a Rain Sleeve & I've not had a problem. When It's been a great lens that pairs wonderfully with my Sony a9. When I get home, I do undo everything & let everything dry overnight. I do not keep it in my bag. When you're investing that much money, I tend to do a bit more to ensure it's worth

Q: 10. With the multiplier on the A6500 what does the mm become roughly? I am trying to avoid a teleconverter if possible to retain the 2.8. Thanks!

A: The Sony crop sensors are a 1.5 multiplier. The 70-200 f/2.8 would have the equivalent of 105-300 on the a6300/a6500.
