Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are the green #71332 and black #72322 versions optically the same? They differ in price and external appearance.

A: According to Celestron, yes, the Celestron 8x42 Nature DX Binoculars (Green), MFR # 71332, and the Celestron 8x42 Nature DX Binoculars (Black), MFR # 72322, would be identical optically; they would have the same optical performance and optical quality. It is only the exterior/housing that varies.

Q: 2. the overview says the close focus distance is 6.5 feet. the specs say it is 41.9 feet. which is it?

A: The Nature DX 10x42 Binocular has a close focus on 6.5 feet.

Q: 3. My husband and I are going on a safari and these binoculars were recommended. Are they a good fit for safari or should I be looking at others?

A: I bought a pair of these two years ago, mostly for use at our country retreat outside Ithaca, NY. Deciding factor was the close focusing ability, though they are fine at a distance, as well. They seem virtually equal to a pair of Eagle binoculars I got for a birthday present some six years ago. Only thing about roof prisms is they provide less stereo separation at a distance. But issues like color fringing, collimation are negligible. A very good value. Was just watching a flock of cedar waxwings eating hawthorn blossoms with gusto.

Q: 4. Where are the binoculars made?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is China. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 5. What is the minimum focal distance for this monocular?

A: About 6 yards

Q: 6. Does the binocular come with a neck strap?

A: Yes it does

Q: 7. How does the Celestron Lifetime Warranty compare to the Carson or Vortex No Questions... type warranty?

A: The Celestron Warranty is a Limited Lifetime. So it only covers against defects. The No Questions asked warranty from Carson and Vortex cover against accidental damage, as well as Manufacturer Defects.

Q: 8. ? tripod adapter

A: Yes this model can take a Tripod Adapter. If you look under the accessories recommended for this binocular it will show a section that says mounting click on that, and it will show you all the compatible tripod adapters. A nice model is the Field Optics Research Rapid-Release Binocular Adapter. Website link: a href= http://bhpho.to/1ydlpb6 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1ydlpb6/a

Q: 9. What is the closest focus distance?

A: About 6 yards

Q: 10. My eyes have different prescriptions. Does anyone know if the Celestron 8x42 Nature DX has a dioptric correction feature?

A: Yes, very straight forward to use given the lens covers. 1) Cover the right lens (the one with the dioptric correction wheel) look at some object and focus using middle focus wheel, 2) Uncover the Right Lens and cover the left lens, while looking at the same object, adjust the dioprric wheel for a sharp image.Jim

I have only used these twice so far, once for terrestrial viewing and once for looking at the moon. On both occasions I was impressed with the clarity. These binoculars are solidly put together and feel very durable. As other commenters have stated, they are a little on the heavy side but that does not bother me at all. I prefer to have the weight and the solid feel. Overall, these are exactly what I wanted when I purchased them. I will be testing them further during whale watching season and when I get to a dark sky site.

I bought these for birding into the rainy/cloudy Pacific Northwest. They have superior light gathering capability and the 12x magnification is very handy for medium to long range viewing. I am very pleased with my purchase. One downside is the significant weight of these binoculars. People with low upper body strength should be careful when considering these.

I'm a birdwatcher in the cloudy Northwest and just bought these for especially overcast days. The large 56 mm lenses gather a large amount of light with very little purple fringing. They feel sturdy and the focus knob works smoothly. They are heavier than my 12x50 binoculars but I was expecting that. People with low upper body strength should think carefully before buying these.

I highly recommend Celestron 8x42, 10x42 and 12x56 Nature DX Binoculars. I am an astronomer and an experienced binocular user for astronomy, bird and nature watching. I have experience with Zeiss, Swift, Swarovski, Minox, Barska and Celestron binoculars and spotting scopes. The Celestron Nature DX binoculars perform nearly as well as any of the top-of-the-line binoculars, while costing far less. Image brightness, field of view, near-focus distance and overall image quality are excellent. And the tripod mounting is superior to any other. I highly recommend them.
