Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this microphone good for recording a symphony orchestra concert? i.e. is it good at picking up a decent range of frequency from the deepest of basses to the highest pitch of a piccolo?

A: Hello Anthony R. Thank you for your inquiry in regards to the SMX-30 Stereo/Mono Switchable Video Microphone. To answer your question, yes. The SMX-30's stereo capsules are broadcast quality and will give you excellent frequency response from 40Hz-20kHz. This is more than sufficient to capture all the detail of a symphony orchestra and will give you a full, natural sounding recording. To get the best performance out of the microphone, engage the +20dB boost switch and turn down your cameras volume so that your cameras audio meters peak at -12dB or slightly higher. Also, make sure to leave the low cut filter switch of the SMX-30 in the OFF position. Of course, make sure the mic is in STEREO mode.

Q: 2. How much do they weigh?

A: The JVC HA-RX500 Around-Ear Stereo Headphones weigh 6.94 oz.

Q: 3. How long is the cord?

A: According to the JVC website, it will come with a 11.48ft(3.5m) cord with gold plated plug. https://www.us.jvc.com/headphones/headphones/ha_rx500/

Q: 4. Samson SR350 Over-Ear Stereo Headphones Kit (Special Edition Blue, 3-Pack) BH #SASR350DB3K (B&H Kit) Do they get individual box packings? Or three in one box?

A: Each headset will come in its own box.

Q: 5. Will adding a mini male to female extension cable diminish the quality of recording? Need more than 8"....more like 10-20 feet?

A: This is fine to try and lots of people do it. The quality will diminish slightly but probably not enough to notice much. Running long cables for unbalanced microphone outputs has two negative effects. 1) Loss of high frequencies 2) Increased likelihood of picking up RF interference. The longer the cable the more these negative effects become apparent. Twenty feet is about the limit before these negative effects become very noticable. The quality of the cable will be a factor, as well as proximity to other wires and electronic devices.

Q: 6. Does this microphone work with Canon Vixia Camcorders?

A: Just check the camera or the manual to see if it does have a microphone input. Not all Vixia models have microphone inputs. If it does have a microphone input, then the SMX-30 is compatible. You may also want to check if the camera has a cold shoe slot to mount the microphone. If not, you may want to look into alternative mounting solutions.

Q: 7. What is the 3.5mm plug cord length on the SMX-30?

A: It's 20 cm, 8 inches.

Q: 8. Will it work on a Nikon d5600?

A: Yes, the SMX-30 is fully compatible with the Nikon D5600.

Q: 9. Does it support Bluetooth type 4.0?

A: This headset does not use Bluetooth. It includes a transmitter in the box which sends audio via standard UHF frequencies.

Q: 10. Do these fold up?

A: No. This is serious headphone. It is not convenience for travelling or running. It is big and heavy but it sounds good and comfortable.
