Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the RF 2x extender be compatible with the new RF 200-800mm lens?

A: Yes, the Canon RF 2x extender is compatible with the Canon RF 200-800mm lens.

Q: 2. Does either one of the two 2x TC config work? 1] R5 -2x (rf) - RF/EF adapter - 100/400 II (ef) 2] R5-RF/EF Adapter-2x TC (EF) - 100/400 II(EF)

A: The EF-to-RF adapter doesn't properly mount to the RF-teleconverters due to the optical tube. You'll need to use option 2.

Q: 3. Have anyone tried this RF extender on a RF body, then an EF adapter, finally, an EF lense? In theory, it should work...

A: No, they are not compatible. All Canon RF to EF adapters have a narrow square shape opening on the back; therefore, the Canon Extender RF 2x front optic cannot fit through the adapter.

Q: 4. Will the auto-focus on the R5 work with RF Extender 2X and RF 100-500 lens?

A: Yes, autofocus is available when using the RF Extender 2X with the RF 100-500mm lens while mounted on the EOS R5.

Q: 5. Does this extender does the glass on Canon's RF 100-500 when zoomed out to 300mm?

A: While I do not quite understand the question due to the way it is worded, when using the Canon Extender RF 2x, the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM Lens can only be operated within the 300-500mm focal length range. Before attaching the 2x Extender, use the lens' zoom ring to set the focusing distance between 300mm and 500mm, then attach the extender to the lens. The lens may then be attached to the camera. Attaching the extender forcibly with the focusing distance set between 100mm to 300mm may result in malfunctions or other damage.

Q: 6. Does this product come with both the 90 degree tube and the straight lens tube?

A: Yes, the AstrHori 18mm f/8 90-Degree Direct View Macro Probe Lens (Micro Four Thirds) comes with both lenses.

Q: 7. Isn't this RF lens f/8 for ASP-C?

A: Yes, the AstrHori 18mm f/13 2x Macro Probe Lens is made for APS-C but can mount onto full frame cameras.

Q: 8. Is Canon EXT. RF2X compatible with Canon - RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM?

A: It is not. The current list of compatible lenses for the RF teleconverters are currently (5/25/21) the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM, RF 600mm f/11 IS STM, and RF 800mm f/11 IS STM.

Q: 9. It's not compatible with a 70-200 or the RF 24-105, due to physical incompatibility, can it be resolved by using extension tubes like Kenko or JJC? It's not specifically recommended by canon but These extensions tubes are usually used for Macro. Some setup has been made combining the canon extender (EF) 2x and 1.4x with an extension tube ( to shot the moon for exemple). So the question is woukd it work?

A: No , it will not work

Q: 10. Is the lens mount user-swappable?

A: Yes, the AstrHori 18mm f/8 Macro Probe Lens (Canon RF) can be put on or removed just like any other Canon RF lens.

I own both the EF35/1.5L and the RF35/1.8. Even in very low light situations, the IS more than makes up for the ⅔ stop lower aperture.

The balance on the R is perfect. Carry all day for street photography. The EF35f1.4L feel great on the other EOS bodies.

I feel that 1.8 is a great aperture, especially with IS. Autofocus is just instant.

Image Quality: the resolving power amazes me. Somehow the bokeh is as amazing as the EF35/1.4! Even when “pixel peeping”, this lens matches the 1.4L -PLUS- the R will zoom in when manually touching up the focus. I hold the lens in my left hand with index finger on control ring for exposure compensation while I zoom in for focus perfection.

Only complaint: the lens hood and bag should be included!

I’m a long time EF lens shooter. My very first EF lens, and one I’ve gotten saleable photos with, is the EF35mm f/1.4L. Well, I like this RF35mm non-L better! Focus is instantaneous. The lens is sharp wide open. And the IS is a godsend. Did I mention the 1:2 macro? This is just a great all around lens and combined with the R body makes for a very compact walk-around rig. I could almost see foregoing the kit lens and just using the RF35.

At first glance this seems to be the least exciting RF lens from the original four. Ive had a difficult time reading much about it because everyone is excited about the other three, understandably so. I was a little hesitant about buying it because Id read it focuses slowly and it is loud while focusing, etc, making me think it was a bit of an afterthought in design by Canon just to fill the gap.

I went ahead and bought it because as much as I love the RF 24-105, its a big, heavy lens and I like to have a smaller, faster lens for more general walk around, street photography, and 35mm provides a good general use field of view. I figured at this price point, I didnt have too much to lose.

Im very happy to report that I have been pleasantly surprised. Not only is this lens small and light, it also has excellent image quality from f1.8 and up. No hyperbole; it is actually extremely good. If it isnt quite L quality, then it is dang close. Sharpness, color, contrast, background blur, all really good for a little plastic lens.

It is true that it isnt the quietest lens at times. When trying to focus in macro range, it does make a little buzzy lens focusing noise. However when shooting in more typical ranges, it barely makes any noise and I did not find it slow at all while doing street photography, it seemed as fast as any lens on my Fuji X-T3.

Im not a stranger to DSLRs but for the last few years Ive been using smaller mirrorless cameras so switching to the R was a jump up in weight/size, but putting this little prime on it has really increased my enjoyment of transitioning back to full frame.

I use this lens on my new Canon Eos R H alpha modified For astrophotography and am amazed how much smaller, tighter the stars are with less coma than my Canon EF 35 mm1.8.
In addition it’s very light, so Bravo Canon!!

A moderately priced lens for the EOS R system, the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM is an all-arounder that will spend a lot of time on the EOS R camera. It is sharp edge-to-edge even wide-open and the color rendering is Canon at its best. Throw-in image stabilization and you have a must have lens for the EOS R system. Highly recommended.
