The ATH-M50x features proprietary 45mm large-aperture dynamic drivers with rare earth (neodymium) magnets and CCAW (copper-clad aluminum wire) voice coils for high-quality sound reproduction.

The drivers and headphone design work together to provide a sonic signature tuned flat for exceptional clarity throughout an extended frequency range along with deep, accurate bass character. With a frequency response of 15 Hz to 28 kHz, the ATH-M50x can reproduce a full spectrum of tones.

The ATH-M50x utilizes a circumaural design that contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments. This over-ear, closed-back style is optimal for reducing bleed and separating you from outside sounds.

Equipped with 90° swiveling earcups, the ATH-M50x ensures a great fit and allows effortless one-ear monitoring, a welcome benefit for DJs and singers. The earcups fold up to meet the headband, saving space during storage. A carrying pouch is supplied for protection and convenience while transporting the headphones.

To expand its versatility, the ATH-M50x incorporates a detachable cable design that exits from the left side. This enables convenient cable swapping and makes it easier to distinguish the different sides of the headphone. Three cables are included—a 3.9 to 9.8' coiled cable, a 9.8' straight cable, and a 3.9' straight cable—to let you choose the best cable for sessions, traveling, or listening at home.

The attached cable is terminated with a gold-plated 3.5mm TRS mini plug for easy hookup to mobile devices, MP3 players, and computer headphone jacks. A secure 1/4" screw-on adapter is included for compatibility connectivity with audio interfaces, mixers, and dedicated headphone amplifiers. Built-in strain relief on the 3.5mm mini plug reduces the likelihood of damaging the connection if the cable is pulled.

Thanks to the pro-grade earpad and headband materials used in the ATH-M50x, the headphones provide increased durability and comfort while delivering enhanced audio and effective isolation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How are these for gaming? I have an external mic already.

A: These are great for gaming. They don't have as much bass as many consumer grade headphones, but just the right amount.

Q: 2. Open Box Products Have a Limited 2-Year Warranty?

A: Yes open box items come with a warranty.

Q: 3. What is the difference between the m20s and m30s in terms of sound and comfort ?

A: M30 is better sounding and handles more power, so louder. They have better high frequency performance. The comfort level is comparable, very little difference if any, ; similar structurally, the M20 are SLIGHTLY lighter weight (7oz. vs 8oz.)

Q: 4. does these headphone have bass in them

A: I think so. I'm not an expert. I chose them based on reviews for various headphones in the price range I was willing to pay and have been well satisfied with them for a wide variety of music ranging isn't from classical and opera to C&W. The bass doesn't dominate, but I consider that artificial. I think balance is closer to a live performance.

Q: 5. Is the cable straight or coil?

A: Both. One coiled cable (1.2m) and one straight cable (3m). You can confirm it from 'In the box' of the product description as well.

Q: 6. Can I use these with BTE-style hearing aids (Oticon OPN3) without hearing feedback like I do with Bose QuietComfort25?

A: Yes, the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Monitor Headphones (Black) BH #AUATHM40X should work well with BTE-Style hearing aids.

Q: 7. are the ear pads removable?

A: Yes they are. They are attached with pressure clips.

Q: 8. Does it work with cellphone?

A: Yes without a glitch!

Q: 9. Will this work with IPAD?

A: Indeed.

Q: 10. What size is the storage pouch?

A: Unfortunately we do not have a specific spec for the size of the pouch. It is snuggly fitted to the width of the headphones when folded, roughly seven inches or so.

so I was looking for a sealed unit to use in noisy rooms and on flights, realize that these are not specifically built for air-travel. I listen to a mix of classical, rock, metal, world (Kodo, Tuvan, etc) and was looking for a good unit. I have used this for a couple of weeks now. I find that the headphone is very revealing, badly recorded tracks sound BADLY RECORDED. Quite fast (might give up a smidgen to open back units such as the HD650). The low frequency notes are well defined but this does not pound your head; I was looking for quality over quantity, so, no complaints. Oh, its a tad heavy (does not bother me)

I purchased these as an upgrade, and have enjoyed them so far. They’re lightweight, and even though they’re closed-back headphones, they’re not hot or tight on my head. The high frequencies stand out a little more than I’m used to, but it didn’t take long to adjust my hearing.

These are really nice monitors for critical listening applications. They are comfortable enough for hours of use. Not hyped in any way. They are flat and true representations of your sound.

It's been nearly six years since I purchased these headphones, and I would buy them again. I mainly use these at my computer while watching videos, listening to music, editing, or doing voiceover. I also use them with my zoom F6 audio recorder and my camera to monitor audio. They sound great, and they're also very comfortable. They come in a soft case which does a great job of protecting the headphones. The ear pads and the top cushion are starting to flake a bit after six years of wear, but I can always replace the earpads for a relatively cheap price. I'd recommend these for anyone looking for their first pair of quality headphones. I've also used the M50x's and I can definitely say I like the 70's better in terms of both comfort and sound quality. Unless you desperately need Bluetooth connectivity, I'd buy these over Bose, Sony, or Beats any day.

The bottom joint on the previous pair broke on the same day the plug-in from the coiled cable broke and could not be removed. Used daily for 2 years.

I like them.
