Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Compatible with Nikon D5500 camera?

A: It works great on mine

Q: 2. Does this lense work with d7100. Is it a good lense for night time sporting event (football).

A: It works with full frame cameras like D810, but my guess is it should work with d7100, too.It may be not fast enough for low light conditions.

Q: 3. How do you protect the front element of these large telephotos against dust and scratches?

A: There is not any conventional type filter made for these lenses due to their massive size and the cost it would incur. The lenses are super-coated with multiple protective coatings to prevent scratches and dust etc that one would commonly encounter when using this type of lens in the field. Further it is recommended to use the lens' hood for extra protection. Also in the Accessories tab on the link for this lens, we have many options for neoprene hood hats, neoprene lens covers and other protective products designed to protect the lens when used in the field.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with d3300?

A: Yes it is compatible. On a recent trip to Alaska It was my main lens. I took 386 pictures with it. It did a great job.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D800 camera

Q: 7. If i were to use this lens on a DX format camera, would there be a difference in quality than by using a lens that is already in Dx format?

A: FX and DX format lenses will function identically on a DX camera body. In terms of quality, that really depends on a lens by lens comparison. That being said, the AF-S 70-300mm lens does have better optical quality than the two DX telephoto zoom lenses Nikon makes.

Q: 8. Is this lens compatible with Nikon D5300?

I use this to complement the 18-105 lens that came with my DSLR. I really struggled with whether I wanted the 18-200 alone or would get this one. In the end, I decided I didn't like the 18-200 (probably I'm a minority) but also it would have been a challenge to sell my 18-105. Anyway... this 70-300 feels very solid and well-built. The zoom is a little stiff and zooming while tracking a subject such as in video mode would be tricky. But it is certainly easy to zoom in and out for photos and there is zero lens creep. It has M/A autofocus which means you can autofocus and then fine tune the focus further if you wish. The lens feels great on my Nikon D7000 and the lens hood reverses for storage. I put a Nikon NC-0 on it to protect the lens. I also bought the Caselogic SLRC-202 bag and this lens does fit in (snugly) camera mount-end first with the hood reversed. Note that if you have this lens on a D7000 and shove it into the sling compartment it can be zipped shut but the lens is bottomed out in the bag. The Vibration reduction on this lens is absolutely amazing... you can see its effect instantly through the viewfinder when zoomed in. The autofocus is also very quick and very quiet. I found it to be quieter than the 18-200 which had a loud clicking sound when it autofocused (or stabilized; can't remember which). You can't put a lens multiplier on it but you can get a nice picture of the moon, which is fun. Great out of focus background too, even with points of light... nice circular shapes.I bought mine as a refurbished model from B&H... amazing value...

I have been using this lens to take photos on the water of sailing events. This lens allows me to get really close to the action and the image stabilization reduces the number of bad images. The depth of field on this lens is great, allows crisp focus on subjects at great distances.

This lens is great as a first timer lens. Hard to beat for the price. Autofocus works great with my D3000 that didn't come with a lens. Please note: It does NOT include the Vibration Reduction (anti-shake) like many of the slightly higher end lenses, but for the price, I can't justify reducing my rating. This is a perfect starter lens for anybody on a budget.

This lens is tremendous value for the buck spent. Keeping the aperture to f8 or f11 if at 300mm it preforms very well with little softness. At 70mm to 200mm it is more than acceptable for sharpness. Using Lightroom for post processing the results are terrific.

Use product for outdoor/nature photography. VR makes a big difference in-hand at higher zoom range.

My use of the 70-300mm VR lens is mostly in wildlife and outdoor photography. I find it to be quick to focus, giving me that up front and close image result and crisp in appearance. I first bought the 55-300 mm vr lens and wow was it ever slow to focus. That pushed me to the 70-300. So glad I made the switched. On occasion, I do some second-shooter gigs at weddings and intend to give this lens a try at that as well. If I were to express one frustration, it would be what others have written on other boards and that is the zoom and focus ring positions should be reversed. However, this is easy to get used to and no biggie. This lens is well worth its cost and another great job by Nikon.

This lens is awesome. Crisp, edge to edge sharpness, very durable, an all-around great lens if you need the reach of 300mm while still being able to shoot slightly wider. The new VRII system works really well. Without VR, camera shake is very noticeable in the viewfinder but when I activate the VR, it's as if I'm shooting with a tripod! I highly recommend this lens for anyone wanting a high quality zoom.
