Designed for harsh outdoor environments which can encounter rain, snow, hail, and extreme temperatures, the HPE Networking Instant On AP17 Outdoor Access Point supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and provides up to 867 Mb/s on the 5 GHz frequency band. It also supports Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and provides up to 300 Mb/s on the 2.4 GHz frequency band. Equipped with down-tilt, omni-directional internal antennas, this dual-band access point features a Gigabit Ethernet port that supports 13.5W PoE (Power over Ethernet), ideal for transmitting both data and power over a single cable. Smart Mesh technology makes it easy to expand the network into hard-to-wire areas.

Multi-user MIMO technology allows the ceiling-mountable access point to handle multiple simultaneous data streams. An integrated Bluetooth Low Energy radio allows for location-based and wayfaring applications. With the mobile app or the cloud portal, you can easily manage your Wi-Fi as well as create separate guest and employee networks. Use the included clips to mount the access point to the ceiling rails or to a solid surface, like a wall or ceiling.

Note: The access point does not include a power source.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-M-US UniFi AC Mesh Wide-Area Indoor/Outdoor Dual-Band Access Point be used to extend the wireless capabilities of my Xfinity modem/router to get better coverage on the same network?

A: You can have the same wifi name with the Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-M-US UniFi AC Mesh Wide-Area Indoor/Outdoor Dual-Band Access Point. Keep in mind that it might be necessary to adjust the settings for better performance.

Q: 2. I am not able to mount anything on my ceiling and would have to mount to a wall. Would this produce better coverage than a Unifi UAP-AC-Pro mounted on a wall? Thanks!

A: While it is impossible to say with 100% certainty, since that will depend in a lot of outside factors, the UAP-AC-M-US does have a higher range rating than the UAP AC PRO. Real world results will vary depending on where you install it, building materials and layout, wireless interference in the area and the rest of your network components. The only real way to know for sure is to test it out. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach pc@bhphotovideo.com.

Q: 3. How do you get the Gigabit PoE that shows in the Quick start menu?

A: The device is native 10/100/1000 auto sense and supports POE. The speed of your POE equipment is dependent on that equipment throughput. You can use a POE Switch or POE injector the MESH unit will work on either. :)

Q: 4. I have a Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-PRO UniFi Access Point. Aside from its form factor and its ability to be used outdoors, how is this different?

A: The UAP-AC-Pro has two Ethernet ports versus the one on the Mesh AP. Also: - 3 antennas vs 2 - 22 dBm vs 20 dBm transmit power - 1750 Mb/s Total (2.4 GHz: 450 Mb/s and 5 GHz: 1300 Mb/s) vs 1167 Mb/s Total (2.4 GHz: 300 Mb/s and 5 GHz: 867 Mb/s) throughput

Q: 5. I live with access to a guest wifi from business below the signal is pretty good but localized. Is this a help or something else from Ubiqiti....?

A: Yes the UAP-AC-M-US will extend a Wi-Fi area. It must be wired to the router. Preferably a Ubiquiti router or switch.

Q: 6. Is this weather proof? I'm looking to install these on brick outside with no cover and the Mesh Pro is overkill for this installation.

A: Yes, Weather-Resistant Enclosure

Q: 7. Does this model have second Ethernet port?

A: It has a single Ethernet port.

Q: 8. Will these work with a UAP AC? Also do i need one UAP AC on each end one to receive the signal and one to send?

A: This would be a mesh access point. The number of units would be heavily dependent on the use case scenario.

Q: 9. I have 3 UAP AC PRO's, but they are not getting enough signal from the main uplink. Can I use a UAP-AC-M-US as a middle hop for these? Ie. I am not clear if I can use a mesh + uplink type of setup. Thanks

A: You can use that M device with the pro account Uaps. Im assuming you link them via 802.11. I'd run one of the ac pro as a first hop. Put the M device in the middle somewhere. The system works best with the unifi gateway device and switch. A very robust system. It works very well.

Q: 10. What is the range?

A: According to the manufacture brochure, it supports more than 15km+. https://bit.ly/2WVm2FN

I 've deployed about a dozen of the UAP-AC-M's. They have been very reliable and provide a powerful and flexible set of features and abilities (including Mesh) using Ubiquiti's UniFi controller software. There is a steep initial learning curve to using this controller software, but once you're there it makes life easy configuring and monitoring these network devices, especially remotely.

Great little device. It's light enough that I was able to mount it via 3M command strips to a wall without needing to drill holes. My old plaster walls were happy about that.

The one thing to be aware of is that you need to use the Ubiquiti controller software on a computer to set it up, you can't just log into a web interface like some of the simpler models on the market. Also, if you have multiple of these in your house, enable wifi roaming. You'll have smoother transitions between access points that way.

This is great for adding mesh points to your network. Also, it is rated for outdoors as well.

Using this to broadcast wifi signal to a 1500 sq ft cottage located approximately 75 feet from the transmitter. The access point mounted on a pole about 20 feet above ground level attached to an adjacent building. Works well delivering strong signal throughout the interior spaces - including the far side of the building.

There had been a problem with the existing underground ethernet cable serving this cottage - so implementing this Ubiquiti wireless solution was an easier fix than trenching a new cable. Once setup, the signal strength from the Ubiquity unit transmitting from the adjacent building is as strong as the signal from the old Netgear Access Point that had been mounted within this cottage.

Probably good to 600 ft for iPhones. But has much longer range for freestanding devices like cameras. Line of sight I am able to get 3000 ft to a camera with this on a 60ft tower. For crowds you’ll have to get it over everyone’s heads to get any range out of it. That’s just the way radio works.

I already have a UniFi gateway and AP, but wanted something discreet to extend my network to my backyard. I connected this to an ethernet cable I already had run for cameras, and after minimal effort, got it adopted to my Ubiquiti powered network. I'm getting ~280mbps in my yard now.
