Welcome to thee family, it's bigger brother, the brand new Manfrotto 161MK2B, you will have the Nickname ( The Monster). An absolute beast delivered by B&H this morning, soaring a massive 2700mm or 8FT high. This is truly gonna get some use and abuse. The build, construction, this has seriously had some use since it arrived in tethered capture. Best thing I vet bought.

I use this tripod very rarely, but it goes in the car with me on every architectural shoot that has an exterior angle I need to capture. When I need to get above foreground distractions or get a more balanced pov this tripod has the height. Great build quality, very stable even at full extension (with lightweight gear). When you pick this monster up, lift with your legs...

As an architectural photographer, height is something that I just can't get around sometimes. This tripod is great. Heavy, but great. It dwarfs my D800, so it looks a bit funny, but so what. I've paired it with my standard 410 head, so it's perfect for what I need it for. Will it travel with me? Probably not. I'll be sticking with my good old trusty 3236 for that. It may go with me on some shoots, but not many.

This tripod is a monster, and I LOVE it. I got this beast for two main reasons: 1. I needed a high vantage point for the shooting I do 2. I needed a STABLE platform for my camera, to accommodate consistent frame alignment while shooting over a period of some time. This tripod is VERY satisfying to attach my camera to. It's completely stable and solid, resisting light accidental kicks and other forces that have interfered with my camera's stability on lesser tripods in the past. And the most satisfying thing of all is that it remains stable even at VERY tall heights. I may be in the minority in thinking this heavy thing is worth lugging around, and I certainly wouldn't advise folks to think of this as their one and only tripod - it's probably more of a special circumstance tool for most people... but I'm so taken with the stability of it that I'm probably going to bring this with me to every shoot from now on. I was a tiny bit surprised to realize (even after reading the specifications) that fully collapsed, this tripod still spans the full width of the back seat of my car. So, it's a commitment to bring with you, to be sure. But it's well worth the effort, I'm finding.

A serious piece of equipment. Very versatile. Legs can be positioned many different ways. It's heavy, but has very good height, which is why I purchased it.

I needed a beast of a tripod and this is the one, folks. If a studio camera suspender is out of the realm for you but a tiny tripod just won't do, this is the best of both worlds. It is heavy- too heavy to use as an excursion tripod but definitely doable to travel to studios or on-location shoots. This thing goes even higher than I could want and is SO sturdy I just cannot believe it. I put my own heads on this tripod and am amazed how well balanced this guy feels even with my horizontal arm pushed way out with my heaviest lenses. Well worth the price, I've replaced many tripods now and rigged up some sketchy situations trying to 'prop up' my tripods to make them shoot even higher. (I shoot mostly top-down foodscapes and often can't get far enough away)

When using telescopes or big binoculars the 161's hold their own. Heavy? Yes, you want a stable platform for highpower observing with alt/az mount heads.

Heavy duty and well made without being over the top and too heavy. Good value and adaptable tripod. I also bought the Manfrotto 181B folding dolly, which seems to work well so far!

That's what the assistants have named it: the beast However it is exactly what your looking for when it comes to solid support with no consideration with regards to it's weight.. I love it... but I'm not the one who has to carry it. My assistants might have a different opinion of it....
