Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I've just purchased this Canon EF135mm F/2L USM and no regrets. However, I purchased this primarily for portraits as was my use back in the days of film, but I'm reading on this site and others that the new choice is the way-pricey 85mm L Lens. I've the Canon 5D Mark IV (Full frame), so I'm a happy clam, I'd just like THIS groups thoughts on 135 mm vs. 85 mm for most portraits ????

A: 135mm and 85mm are both great options when it comes to shooting portraits. If you have the distance between you and the subject, I do like the 135mm for full-length portraits and such. Both are great, and there isn't a wrong answer, if 135mm is what you're comfortable with, then stick with it.

Q: 2. While this lens doesn't have specific dust and moisture resistent construction, Canon states that all L-lenses have a certain degree of weather protection. For those that have used this lens outside, have you found any issues? (e.g. with cold, mist, light rain?) I currently have a 5D IV with 50mm f/1.2 which is all weather-sealed.

A: I did not have any issues with this lens yet

Q: 3. HELP!!! I dearly love my Canon 135mm f2 lens, and, due to the weight difference between it and that of the 60D/6D cameras with which it's used, I'm wondering if it's possible to use a tripod collar for this lens, and if so, which tripod collar would fit (Canon 135mm f2 ?). Thanks Beverley.

A: Hi Beverley, I haven't used a collar for this lens before. I did a quick search on the web for and couldn't find a specific collar that works with this lens. You can ask (call, or chat) B&H staff. They are very knowledgeable about these products. Good Luck!

Q: 4. Would a D-Lux 8 fit in this sling?

A: Yes the D-Lux 8 will fit in the Long Weekend Monterey Sling.

Q: 5. Does this fit in the everyday 30l backpack?

A: Yes, the Peak Design Travel Tech 2L Pouch fits in the Peak Design Everyday Backpack v2 (30L, Black).

Q: 6. Does it fit in Everyday Backpack 20L?

A: You would need to take most of the partitions out of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack v2 (20L) for the Peak Design Travel Tech 2L Pouch (Black) to fit.

Q: 7. This doesn't look image stabilized, and I was interested in purchasing this for cinematography to capture some unique shots with awesome aperture, without the 70-200 hassle. Has anyone used it for such? It seem like 135mm is a bit much for this use without an IS.

A: An IS is useful when you photograph on exposures lower than 1/80 NY hands. When your camera is on the stand - you should turn off IS. It means that for professional video the IS is useless.

Q: 8. Is this lens Image Stabilized?

A: No it is not.

Q: 9. Would this lens work on a Canon 50D?

A: The Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens is compatible with the Canon 50D.

Q: 10. Can this lens be used with the canon 5dm2

A: Yes!

One of the greatest lens I've ever used. I had the f/1,8 FD version, which was already stunning, but this new model is even better, especially wide open. And the stabilizer is a great addition. To improve this lens, I can only think about a shorter minimum focusing distance. Other than that, this lens is just perfect from every point of view, regardless of the diaphragm, the lighting or the distance of focus. Bokeh is very beautiful.

This has got to be Canons best lens ever produced..I shoot motocross 99% of the time but did not want another 300 F2.8 because how limited I found it shooting the big races with 30 other media people.I ended buying this lens (200 f2 IS) and all I can say is wow wow wow! People ask why I didnt get the 200 F2.8 thats only $600 compared to 5k well its simple that lens does not produce the results you get with this lens. This lens is so fast you can hardly even believe it, the colors, contrast and Bokeh are 10/10..Ive had all of Canons top sports lens and this is by far my favorite. Throw a 1.4 extender on it your still at f2.8 300+ mm..Its like 2 lenses in one..Indoors this things is simply amazing, I took some shots of my baby girl inside at 2.0 with very limited light and I just could not believe the results. This lens I will keep forever, if your on the border and cant decide if you want it or not just DO IT you will not regret it.

I've used this lens to shoot ice hockey at all levels including prep, college, USA Hockey, OHL, and NHL for many years. Despite its weight, the results are simply addicting.

Prior to purchasing this bad boy, I was shooting hockey with the 70-200mm f2.8 and thought I was getting good results. Boy, was I in for a surprise! After renting the 200mm f2.0, I was immediately stunned to see just how sharp and bright my images could be. Problem was that I (and my customers, editors, etc.) became addicted to this sharpness and eventually compelled me to buy it.

Now, along with my 1DX, I've shot this lens from hundreds of penalty boxes and stadium perches and, if I'm limited for space (so I cannot bring my 300mm f2.8 II), from concourse level with a 1.4X extender. I highly recommend this lens and cannot imagine shooting hockey without it.

This lens is awesome. I bought it for shooting sports in low-light and it is living up to my expectations. Lens is sharp and focus is fast. And it works great with the 1.4x Extender. The lens is heavy, about the same size as a 300/2.8.

My intended use for this lens is low light sports photography and environmental portraits. Fast focusing, moderate weight and superb resolution are all rolled up in this not so little gem. Excellent Bokeh when used at 2.0
