I have gotten it wet with sand a few times and I usually wipe everything down after removing the parts. The thing you'll have to be careful is water, they tend to sip inside the legs where you twist to loosen it for extension, as that motion might bring water further in. I do say removing everything and putting it back together will do, but it's a 10-15 minutes task - but hey, it's all for keeping the equipment in good shape!
