A: I have the Pelican Air 1615 with TrekPak dividers. It is amazing and the TrekPak system is genius.To answer your question. With the TrekPak dividers in place, the shortest measurement is 14 and 29/32 of an inch with zero pressure from gear applied. With slight pressure from one finger, the case/foam expands the 3/32 of an inch to become the full 15 you seek. I wouldn't try to fit anything much bigger than that, maybe 15 and 1/8 max.Hope this helps. Oh, by the way. the case without any dividers at all is 16 and 1/16.

I have an older unit with the foam and the gear in that unit has travelled on many global flights and never had an issue. I think with either foam or TrekPak, you will be good to go! I can't comment for size as I don't know how big the Celestron is.
