I use this with my Canon 5DMK2 for landscapes, interiors, and creative shots of just about anything. Depending on how close you are, how you tilt the lens, you get interesting effects. Awesome for landscapes and interiors. Takes getting used to. Does tend to push everything further away, sometimes more than I want. Extreme keystoning of buildings and walls when shot close up, of course. Because the glass is rounded outwards like a fisheye, it's scary--you can get too close to something when being creative, and because it looks further away you can feel the lens accidentally touching the object, which could scratch the lens. Does get dusty faster than other lens I own. No option for attaching protective filters or any filters. Fantastically sharp, blows me away, probably the sharpest lens I own; crisp, beautiful color. When you need ultra wide angle, this is the one to own.

This is my 10th L lens and I can honestly say that I do not have a better one, including my beloved 500 and 50 f1.2. I hesitated buying this because I had the 16-35 2.8 Mk II and I just got the filters (NDs & grad NDs) that I wanted for my landscape work. However, I am so happy I pulled the trigger, this lens is lighter with better image quality & I was satisfied with my 16-35. This lens is so wide you do not have to stop it all the way down to get significant DoF.

This lens is absolutely awesome; fast focusing; great colors; great saturation; very well made. The corner-to-corner sharpness is excellent wide open. Best barrel distortion correction I've seen in a long time. There is some CA to deal with in some higher contrast situations but that's expected with most, if not all, ultra-wide angled lenses.

For architectural and interior shooters with full frame bodies this lens will be a staple right next to the EF 15 2.8. Much improved for digital bodies in the corners with less vignetting and chromatic abberation. Heavy and easy to damage though not usually a problem on a tripod. Really expensive upgrade for what you get IMO as the old EF 14 2.8L USM was O.K. on film but really not a particularly great lens on a digial body. For digital you almost have to have the mkII version unless you are willing to carefully correct the chromatic abberations in LR or CS4. Pricey but if you have to shoot wide there is nothing else to compete with it for a full frame Canon digital body.

As a EF17-40 f/4 L USM user on a full frame body, I was used to getting wide shots and even still craved a lens that could give me even more coverage of a scene and in that respect, the EF14L f/2.8 L II USM delivered an additional 46% amount of area coverage and did so with less distortion, nicer color and sharper detail even at f/2.8 which completely amazed me! I can now shoot an entire room in one frame when I shoot interiors and for when I go out to do landscape, I can bring in more detail; things like near-by tree tops where the tops would have been cut off before, I can now capture the forest and the trees! The recto-linear properties are also fantastic at keeping vertical lines straight in my shots with near zero key-stoning effect when I carefully compose my shots. The new lens caps is also great as it stays put and keeps the lens' front element protected by not slipping off the way the previous design did. A bit on the expensive side too but all things considered, well worth the investment as this lens can get you pictures that would be difficult to achieve with a standard Canon zoom lens and of course being part of the L series ensures you of the best possible construction quality and dependability to say nothing of the fantastic image quality.

I use this on my 5DmkII and the results are amazing. I must say I love the feel of these images. I also have the 16-35II which I am very happy with , however, for SUPER wide and LOW distortions, the 14II is AMAZING.

I love this little beast. Have taken some great shots and video with it on my 5D MkII. Remember to get really close to your subject when using such a wide angle lens. Also, this is not a fish eye, the rectilinear distortions are awesome. Sharpness is fantastic. Only cons I can think of is that at this price point, it would have been great if it were a little faster maybe f2.0.
