It also excels in low light, making it useful for night photography. Light and portable at 10.9 oz, it comes with a 52mm filter thread for additional light-shaping capability. The lens structure (6 elements in 5 groups with a nine-blade diaphragm) reduces unwanted effects like ghosting and flare. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I already have the EF version and switch to this will it be an upgrade in image quality? Or is it literally just the same lens in RF?

A: If you have an EF-R adapter to mount the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, but it lacks the control ring, this RF 50mm f/1.8 STM would have that added function to control settings such as the aperture.

Q: 2. Is the lens hood for this lens the same as the one for the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens?

A: The Canon 50mm STM RF lenses uses the ES-^%B hood which is not the same hood that the EF mount version uses. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3U4P0Bn

Q: 3. How about the Warranty?

A: Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens (Canon RF) BH #CA5018RF includes 1 year warranty with Canon USA.

Q: 4. What is the diameter of this lens? As in, if I were to put on a seamless follow focus, what size should I use?

A: The outer diameter is 89.8mm.

Q: 5. How’s the chromatic aberration on this lens when opened all the way up? I had the old EF 50mm 1.2 and got rid of it because it was so noticeable shooting anything below a 2.8. Mainly shooting video

A: From our findings, there is little to no chromatic aberration on this lens.

Q: 6. What is the latest firmware for this lens? Just got mine, the firmware version is at 1.0.0, checked Canon website... nothing so far.

A: Firmware v1.0.0 is currently the latest version at this time for the RF 50mm 1.8

Q: 7. Is this a good lenes for milkyway shots?

A: Here is our top 10 ten lens to shoot astro and aurora photography. 1. Sony 20 mm f/1.8 2. Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM 3. Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 4. Venus Laowa 15mm f/2 5. Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S 6. Canon RF 15-35 mm f/2.8 7. Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG 8. Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD 9. Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone 10. Zeiss 18mm Batis f/2.8

Q: 8. Why would a premium ‘L’ class lens like this Canon 50mm f/1.2 omit image stabilization in its design? This seems to imply that image stabilization might degrade the performance, or am I overthinking this?

A: A lens with a large aperture like this one would not necessarily need image stabilization, due to its ability to pull in a lot more light than lenses with a smaller or variable maximum aperture. Additionally, most of the R series bodies, such as the EOS R5/R6 already have stabilization built in to help with the lack of stabilization in the lens.

Q: 9. has anyone attempted to try this lens with a Sony A7III and an adapter?

A: We are not aware of an adapter that allows you to use a Canon RF lens on a Sony E-Mount camera.

Q: 10. How fast is the autofocus on this? Could it be used for sports for instance in a low light gym?

A: The autofocus on the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM Lens is quite fast. Depending on how close you are to the action and the sensor type of your Canon R series camera, it could be used for shooting sports in a low light setting.

I recently purchased a Canon EOS RP for travel and expected to use a mount adapter for my other Canon lenses. But my main goal for getting this camera was to carry a small amount of gear that drew less attention on my photo walks around new cities. So I decided to go ahead and get this 50mm and I love it. It makes the camera super compact. I've been using it in my studio as well for some food photography and food video. I love its size and the image results.

I bought this Canon 50mm at 50% off due to a special offer by Canon through B&H. It was a can't pass up opportunity! I Paid $100 for a new lens that just about everyone who uses it loves and every camera bag needs! After receiving it, I took it outside to check it out on my R10 and it fully met my expectations! With the crop sensor essentially making my 50mm lens actually an 85mm lens, I was amazed by both the sharpness and the background blur (bokeh) it produced. I will be soon using it more for outdoor shooting now that sun is shining in Southern California! But this RF 50mm lens was one that I knew I MUST HAVE with my kit when I purchased my R10 camera a couple of months ago. So far, it's doing everything and more than I hoped for!

Everyone knows about the EF version and the RF version still delivers. There's nothing else to say about this lens. If you know, you know.
