Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit the matrix II?

A: Yes, this fresnel lens can fit the Fiilex Matrix II.

Q: 2. If you has to choose between a Mola Setti or a Mola Demi for 3/4 portraits, which one would it be?

A: The Setti is beautiful warm light with contrast. A Demi is a beautiful light with slightly less warmth and less contrast. Both are beautiful but different. Either one would work well for 3/4 portraits. It all depends on your style.

Q: 3. Have you traveled on a plane with it? what are the actual measurements with the adapter? 28x ...? if you have flown with it, have you paid extra to carry it?

A: I am a fashion photographer and have flown with this dish, since it can be hard to rent locally in many places. It is big and heavy and needs to be boomed out and sandbagged carefully, but the light is amazing and I have used it for many editorial projects. I have the Mola case, which was extremely expensive, but it is the only option for air travel and even around town you need it if you run the PAD and opal glass stacked, as I do. I have never paid extra baggage - a little flirtation goes a long way in this world!

Q: 4. I found a Setti cheap (Dish, Profoto Speedring, and Diffusion Sock). So I'll still need a grid, and the Opal Diffuser. But just wondering... This one seems to have kind of a "creamy" white finish. I imagine it will produce a warmer color temp. Is that normal for a Setti or has this been painted/modified/refurbished? And also, 20 or 40 degree grid? And White, or Black?

A: Back in January I purchased the entire line of Mola soft lights. I would have to say that the Demi and Setti are two favorites. First its hard to know about the interior color of the dish being it could be just old and age discolored or just stored badly between uses. If it turns out to be a bit too warm for your liking I think I would opt for a CC gel to knock it back some. With regard to grids? I prefer the black 20,.....while some say the white gives a nice soft edge which I think is contrary to using a grid to start with.....it also knocks back the contrast which I don't like one bit. {looks odd to me} Also, don't lose any sleep over the Opal diffuser disc. I have several and have yet to use them on any of my dishes. I like them with the perforated disc alone. I think once you get set up with this dish you'll love it as much as all Mola users do. They have a completely unique look and feel to them. Oh, and a tip for storage? Put them back in their plastic shipping bag and store on their face, not on their sides.

Q: 5. How would I set this with the Cheetah-Speed-Pro-Bracket-MKI? What would I need? to mount it?

A: Totally agree with other answer. I would not recommend using a speed light with this. Invest in a strobe that has 360 light direction such as Profoto or Einstein.

Q: 6. How much for the shipment to China

A: This is a question for B&H directly as they would be shipping the product from their warehouse.Customer service at B&H will be able to assist you.

Q: 7. Has anyone bought a cheap case for the Setti? Links?

A: Check your local music store as they have some soft drum cases that should work well.

Q: 8. Can i photography my size 15 shoes inside? With the box?

A: This LED tent has various sizes if you pick one that is larger than your shoe it will work.

Q: 9. Does the power input support 220/230V sockets/voltage?

A: According to the manufacturer, the FotodioX LED Studio-In-a-Box (28 x 28") is only designed for use in the USA for 100-120V 60Hz AC voltage usage.  It would not be compatible for use on 220/230V 50Hz A/C electrical voltage.

Q: 10. Can I use this device to: 1) send analog out to ATEM Mic In. 2)USB to comp-1 streaming soft. 3) Dante to comp-2 running zoom?

A: Yes, the analog output from the Shure ANIUSB-MATRIX USB Audio Network Interface can be connected to the mic input on the Blackmagic Design ATEM Switcher (set the input level on the ATEM for line level audio signal). The USB port from the ANIUSB-MATRIX can be connected to a computer for streaming audio, and the Dante port on the ANIUSB-MATRIX can be connected to a network switch to receive Dante audio, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and data from the control software, then the second computer can be connected to the network switch to send and receive audio for the Zoom meeting.

Deltadave44 clearly did not read the product description, nor did he pay attention to the image on this site. The pin at the bottom of the tilt goes straight into the top of the stand. There is no knob, so don't look for one. The Manfrotto 007 is what I use and the system works perfectly. It's the same system used by Bron and Profoto. I called Mola to clarify the mounting of my speed ring and they contacted me within 5 minutes. The same assembly video that didn't play on Dave's player is on the Mola web site and Mola e-mailed a PDF of the assembly, so I was good to go. Sounds like Dave didn't want get his problem solved! he just wanted to moan. Read the descriptions!

Used as a beauty dish, skin appears flawless (or pretty darn close). Take it away and shadows become pronounced but not hard. Wonderful light for fashion and beauty. I use mine with both diffusers stacked. Haven't found a need for the sock as up close the light is exceptional. Well made but pricey. However, its versatility is a big plus. Don't get me started on the cost of the Einstein speed ring though. That, quite frankly, is a joke.

If you've been looking at the dish and know what it can do, then there's no need to go into intricate detail of how this thing works. It's big, heavy, and expensive. Thats all I can say as far as a con, the pro is that it gives you a new way of controlling the light. I do suggest that you get a case for this if you plan on using this on location. You can order one from B&H or a Mola dealer. They're called Kase-S. I looks like a decent case to use, but it just isn't my cup of tea. I made a case for my Setti, and its epic! Yeah its heavy, but when you spend that kind of money on a beauty dish, you need to protect it.

Purchased this for outdoor use. I was tired of the wind blowing light weight umbrellas and soft boxes outdoors and wanted something stronger that would produce full body even lighting between 3'-6'. This is not light with the strobe/monolight and light stand combined but that's what I wanted. It's solid and produces a really beautiful light on the model and clothing. The skin tones and fabrics have a beautiful look to them and I tested it under windy conditions and it delivered better than expected results. I know this will perform very well indoors but I cannot wait to do more outdoor shoots thanks to this modifier. Truly great buy.

I have been a soft box user for 7+ years and I wish I had purchased this beauty dish a long time ago! What it does to skin is creates beautiful highlights and soft light fall off so that shadows look beautiful! The light wraps around the model so beautifully it's unbelievable compared to a soft box! The detail and color is perfect. The reflection in the eyes is really nice! And best of all clothing looks wonderful! I will be buying the euro and demi next. I love this beauty dish!

Amazing light quality - I am so glad I made this purchase. I put it off for awhile because of the price, but I finally bit the bullet and I am so glad I did! It's big, but it has it's own place in my studio so size is not an issue. If I decide to bring it on site I've got an SUV it will fit right in. :-)

Well, I have had other beauty dishes from metal ones to portables from Fotodiox, Westcott, Profoto, etc. Always though they were about the same so I kept the Westcott Joel Grimes as it was easy to setup and very portable. A local was selling this Mola Setti for which I was always curious about. Turns out she wanted to sell it as she works on her own and needed something easier to handle, the Westcott BD I owned is the one she wanted. So I went to do some comparison shots believing that Molas were all hype and myth but with my natural curiosity it was a test I had to perform. Well...after analyzing the photos, I traded my Westcott plus cash and now I am the Mola. The quality of the light, how it goes from highlights to shadows..it just blew me away! Here is one sample from my first photoshoot with it...as with most BDs, it shines when closer to the subject but as the model was a young girl I used it for a full body shot.

I am just getting into semi-pro photography, but have been an enthusiast for many years. After dabbling in flash photography with speedlights, umbrellas, and a DIY beauty dish I decided to invest in some for real modifiers. I got the Paul Buff 86 Extreme Silver PLM and this incredible Mola Setti (white interior). I saw what Emily Soto and many other fashion photographers were doing with this dish and patiently waited until I could afford one. The light is incredible. I power it with an Elinchrom BXRI 500 so the light is slightly harsher than with a Profoto or Einstein because the Elinchrom flash is bare bulb. That is just fine for me; I got this dish because of the pop it gives portrait subjects. When I want soft light I use the PLM with diffuser or a smaller umbrella. I cannot comment on the diffuser with the Setti because I have not tried it yet but will in the near future. It takes a little time learning how to feather the Setti most effectively; I am not a genius but am learning pretty quickly. I have used it for individual portraits and it simply rocks! I may have considered the Satin Silver Setti if it was still in production; it has gotten great reviews. The new Sollo version was intriguing as well but when it came time to plunk down the money I went with the solid, time-tested white Setti. As always B&H service was amazing getting the product delivered securely and quickly.
