This Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens from Venus Optics is a slender, compact anamorphic lens that captures high-definition video with 1.5x anamorphic squeeze on cameras with S35 sensors. It features a focal length of 27mm, a Sony E lens mount, an aperture range of T2.8 to T22 for a deep depth of field, and 13 iris blades for a shallow depth of field and soft bokeh.

The prime lens has a very short minimum focus distance of 16.9" and offers anamorphic qualities such as high contrast, amber color lens flares, and a 70.8° horizontal field of view. Other features include measurement markings in feet and meters, 0.8 MOD cine gears on focus and aperture rings, and a 55mm front filter thread. The Sony E lens mount is interchangeable and can be swapped out for an optional mount.

A 1.5x squeeze ratio is a perfect balance between the size and anamorphic intensity. With a 1.5x squeeze ratio, you will have a 2.66:1 on a 16:9 sensor after de-squeeze. There is also room for you to crop into a 2.4:1 widescreen ratio.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How well-corrected is this lens for field curvature?

A: The lens is very wide for a macro lens so it can produce distortion.

Q: 2. Can you mount a canon macro twinlite flash on the lens?

A: Yes, with the Canon macrolite adapter and a step up ring, you attach the twin lite. You may get vignetting but can be cropped out in post. Click the links below to view the parts needed; https://bhpho.to/2BpDqgT https://bhpho.to/2BTRJKu

Q: 3. Can you mount it on Metabones x64 MTF adapter?

A: We do not see any issue to mounting this on a Metabones x64 MTF adapter and using it on a MTF camera.

Q: 4. The angle of view is listed as 110 deg. Is this horizontal or corner to corner?

A: Horizontal.

Q: 5. How is this lens in terms of COMA aberation? Has anyone tried this lens for night landscapes, where a close in foreground object is combined with a sky full of stars. Are the stars sharp to the edge, or do they start to look like birds in flight?

A: I'm sorry but I haven't done the type of photography that the asker is interested in.

Q: 6. The screw/tab thing on the bottom by the cap, what is it?

A: If you are referring to the lever at the end of the lens closest to the camera, that is for shift. It is not a tilt/shift lens but works a little like one. You can shift the lens in one direction up to about 6mm.

Q: 7. How is shift limited to aps-c? Can it be overridden?

A: The lens physically cannot shift or tilt more than 6mm.

Q: 8. I'd like to purchase the Canon EF version with the intent of adapting it for Panasonic GH5 and Sony FS5 cameras. Will the appropriate adapters work or will there be any issues related to function and ability of the lens?

A: As long as those Panasonic and Sony cameras are Canon mount, it will work. The lens is 100% manual; there are no adapters to worry about.

Q: 9. is this lens compatible with the canon 6D?

A: Man this is an EF lens, it is compatible with the 6D

Q: 10. Is this TOTALLY manual, i.e. - no info at all translated to the camera? If so, how do you know what shutter speed to set at any given aperture with no exposure info? Thanks.

A: This lens is pretty much all manual, however, the camera can still read light coming into the sensor so you could still adjust your settings accordingly.
