It is not an L lens but for its size, weight, and price it performs very well. The AF noise some people complaint about is not that prominent. Actually after using it for quit a while it does not affect photographing at all. It is a great lens to carry, fits in any pocket, Too bad the lens does not come with a hood, it seems it is a Canon thing. Highly recommended, works well with the Canon R, R6, and R5. 5
