Based on their popular 1-inch diameter remote phosphor LED pipes, the 2' long 3200K Pipeline Reflect 2-Bank from BB&S raises its own performance bar with the inclusion of two LED Pipes for double the power, inside a reflector with a tilting yoke and a receiver.

The Reflect 2-Bank is designed with the Pipes nested in a polished aluminum reflector with a 2" opening that compresses the angle of illumination to 90° and doubles the output as compared to the standard Reflect fixture. As you might expect with a remote phosphor, the fixture has an impressive TLCI rating of 95, an indicator of high accuracy in color rendering.

The reflector is the core of the fixture's system offering wide latitude of power and control options. It has a sliding mount plate with 1/4" and 3/8" female threads. The unit also has a 3-pin XLR connection that interfaces with an optional controller that has four 40W channels for operating multiple fixtures. The controller also has an onboard DMX and RDM for remote operation from a console, as well as provision for wireless DMX. The controller features precise dimming and a 48V power supply with a powerCON True-1 locking cable for AC power. An optional manual-control dimmer/driver unit, a D-tap cable for 14.4 VDC batteries, and an optional AC power supply are also available.

The 2-Bank Reflect uses two Pipeline LED tubes to double the power of the standard Reflect fixture, which itself offers double the power of the LED tube alone. The 2-Bank also comes with a tilting yoke with a receiver that makes stand mounting or overhead hanging a snap.

Pipeline Reflect incorporates a range of superior quality reflectors offering optimal control, and light dispersion spanning a 90° angle with practically no spill. The Reflect System offers double the foot-candle output of the Pipes alone. As with all BB&S fixtures, the versatile Pipeline Reflect feature offers strobe capability when used with the optional BB&S 4-Way Controller.

The Reflect System utilizes the same 95 TLCI-rated remote phosphor 1" diameter LED pipes that the Pipeline system is known for. Reflect housings are made of rigid, polished aluminum with a contoured base. Smart engineering compresses the angle of illumination to double the output compared to Pipes used alone.

Reflect 2-Bank fixtures are available in 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8' lengths. They are ideal for studio grids or anchor desks. Set designers will appreciate that the housings are black for a clean-looking installation.

Made for customization, Reflect units feature a 3-pin XLR plug to allow you to control the electronic configuration. To plug and play, a fixture can operate with the BB&S 4-Way Controller (which has four 40W channels) with optional wireless DMX or RDM control. All Pipes run off 48V for precise dimming.

Optional controllers can be mounted on the wall or ceiling. The 3-pin XLR connector within the fixture results in a cleaner installation.

The Pipeline Reflect is compatible with the 4-way controller with DMX/RDM 512 onboard. Optional batteries can also power the fixture when AC power is unavailable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would you compare this with the Otus 85mm?

A: The first place to start is by comparing the technical data, in particular the MTF, vignetting and distortion charts. This will give you an objective overview, without influence of camera or subject matter. Of course, the latter has relevancy and the best way to compare is a side-by-side shoot out by renting the lenses from a reputable company. The datasheets are available for viewing at https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/consumer-products/downloads/photography/datasheets/en/otus-lenses/datasheet-zeiss-otus-1485.pdf and https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/consumer-products/downloads/photography/datasheets/en/otus-lenses/datasheet-zeiss-otus-14100.pdf

Q: 2. Does it have weather sealing gasket?

A: Yes it does according to the information provided by Zeiss.

Q: 3. I see aperture ring and numbers in the product image. If this was used on D7200, does the camera recognize the aperture selected on the ring? And how do the 1/3 aperture stops work?

A: The aperture selection on the ZEISS Milvus ZF.2 lenses can be done using the ring on the lens barrel, or via the sub-command dial on the camera. This choice needs to be made in the set-up menu on the camera (refer to the D7200 user manual for more information). When the aperture ring on the lens is chosen, the aperture is changed in 1/2 stop increments. When the aperture is controlled via the camera using the sub-command dial, then the aperture can be controlled in 1/3 stop increments. When using this method, the aperture on the lens should be set to the lowest level until it clicks into place. Otherwise you will see EE readings in the camera menu.

Q: 4. What are the dimensions of this lens with the hood? I want to purchase a lens case for it, and all I can find are the lens dimensions w/out the hood.

A: The lens shade is reversible for storage, so you can use the dimensions that 'include lens caps' which are listed on the data sheet at: a href= http://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/Photography/new/pdf/en/downloadcenter/datasheets_milvus/milvus1485.pdf. target= _blank http://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/Photography/new/pdf/en/downloadcenter/datasheets_milvus/milvus1485.pdf./a

Q: 5. Is there chromatic aberration with this lens? I have it on my zeiss 28mm

A: The CA characteristics of the Milvus 1.4/50 are improved over the Classic Planar 1.4/50 and can be further controlled via profile corrections in software tools, such as the defringe feature in Adobe Lightroom.

Q: 6. Can you let me know which way around the focus rotates on the Otus? Same as the regular Nikon lenses or the same way as the Canon version. Thanks

A: The Nikon F version rotates the same way as Nikon lenses (i.e. the scale reads from infinity on the left to MFD on the right) and the Canon EF version rotates the same way as Canon lenses (i.e. the scale reads from MFD on the left to infinity on the right).

Q: 7. Does the new lens comes in sealed box/s? Where is the seal located on the boxes? if any. Thanks so much.

A: The ZEISS Otus 100mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F is sold in the manufacturer's packaging, exactly as we receive it from Zeiss.

Q: 8. What is the image circle produced by this lens? Will it cover Fuji or Hasselblad medium format sensors?

A: The ZEISS Otus lenses are designed for cameras using a 24mm x 36mm format and with image circles of 43.3mm. The use of these lenses on cameras with larger sensors will result in vignetting in the corners.

Q: 9. Is this lens made in Germany? Or Japan?

A: The following lens is made in japan.

Q: 10. Will the Otus line come out with the Z mount?

A: The Otus lenses are designed for F and EF mount (D)SLR cameras, but can be used on mirrorless cameras via a compatible lens mount adapter. There are currently no plans to expand the range of mount offerings at this time.
