The matched pair of satin nickel M 950 Microphones from Microtech Gefell includes two wide-cardioid microphones that combine a large-diaphragm capsule with semi-conductor circuit technology. The pair can be used to capture audio in broadcast, project, home, and professional studios and are well suited for use on a wide range of sources including singers, speakers, keyboards, strings, wind instruments, and more. Additionally, two mic holders and a KS25 stereo rail are supplied for easy positioning in stereo configurations.

The condenser microphone capsule delivers a smooth frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz with a slight elevation from 7 to 11 kHz for additional presence. Its wide-cardioid polar pattern provides a forgiving pickup pattern allowing the mic to effectively capture sound from larger instruments and small ensembles. The transformerless circuit design provides for very-low self-noise for clean, distortion-free sound over a wide dynamic range. To reduce sensitivity to mechanical impact and structure borne noise, the microphone capsule and electronics are elastically suspended inside the compact metal housing.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The female to 2x male XLR cable seems short. Is it meant to be just an adapter? I would be connecting the mic to a MIxPre-3 II.

A: Just buy yourself 2 XLR cables 10 to 15 ft and just use this as an extender with the cables the Rode NT4 comes with.

Q: 2. Hi - would there be any advantages in sound quality of buying this over the sound I already get from the Sony PCM-D100 built in mics? I realise they're XY and this is an MS mic but I'm hoping to record two things acoustic singer songwriter bits and also some ambience from a forrest and wondered if the sound from using this VP88 into a mixer (mixpre-d) line out into the line in of the PCM-D100 would yield better results than just using the built in mics on the pcm-d100.

A: Although the built-in mics of the Sony PCM-D100 are very good, this Shure VP-88 offers a very large improvement. Along with better sound, this external mic offers the flexibility of distance and placement away from the recorder.

Q: 3. Is this mic compatible with the Sony HXR-NX3/1?

A: Yes it is. The camera will provide the phantom power that the mic requires. You might want to get these o-rings (SAROCS) to keep it in place if you mount it on the camera's mount.

Q: 4. Hi, I was just wondering. Is it possible to connect Shure VP88 to Sony PCM-D100? And how? And is there any disadvantage in doing that? (recording quality, etc.) All the best, Emil

A: The Shure VP88 can be used with a portable recorder such as the D-100 when set to stereo mode and using the internal battery power. To connect to the 3.5mm input on the recorder would require the included Y cable and additional adapter cable. There would be no disadvantage, however the PCM-D100 is designed primarily for use with the internal mics, and a mic such as the Shure would benefit from a unit with XLR inputs and higher quality preamps.

Q: 5. Will this mic fit the Sony FX3 mic holder?

A: Yes this mic will work with the Sony FX3

Q: 6. How long are the XLR cables?

A: The ECM-MS2 from Sony features a permanently attached 15 cable.

Q: 7. Is the Sony ECM-MS2 microphone compatible with the Sony HXR-NX100?

A: Yes the Sony ECM-MS2 microphone is compatible with the Sony HXR-NX100 camcorder.

Q: 8. What's the best blimp/dead for this microphone?

A: The Rycote Mini Windjammer provides optimum wind diffusion for smaller microphones. Like the standard Windjammer, the Mini Windjammer provides 10 - 12dB extra protection over standard windscreens. This Windjammer accommodates the Rode NT4.

Q: 9. I recently purchased the SONY PXW-X70 PROFESSIONAL XDCAM CAMCORDER. It comes with an XLR handle with microphone holder, but no mic. Is this the right one to pair with it? Are there other (better) options? I want to outfit the camera right. Thanks.

A: I purchased this microphone over a year ago for my PD150; and I've been very happy with it's performance and ease of use.

Q: 10. Is this microphone works with Sony pxw-fs5m2

A: Yes. This microphone will let you record stereo audio into the camera.
