Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How much does this tripod weigh?

A: The Sachtler Ace M Fluid Head with 2-Stage Aluminum Tripod & Mid-Level Spreader weighs 9.7 lb.

Q: 2. Can this tripod be used with a Canon EOS C100 II camera?

A: This tripod has an 8.8 pound load capacity. If the lens and accessories used on the C100 Mark II keep the total weight below 8.8 pounds it will work. The Sachtler Ace XL with a 17.6 pound load capacity is a bit of a better fit for a cinema camera as it gives you more room to mount heavier lenses and accessories with the camera. https://bhpho.to/2tVAXEO

Q: 3. What kind of wheels will go on this tripod?

A: None that I know of. You would have to first purchase some kind of replacement feet. Three of my four tripods have feet made to clip into a set of wheels with detachable foot pads but this one does not. This tripod isn't very sturdy either and the head has a lot of spring back. I also own its big brother with the FSB4 head and composite legs. There is a day and night difference between the two but also more than double the price.

Q: 4. Can I mount a Sony A7iii on the back of the plate without it interfering with my lens operation or mount it near the front of plate without plate protruding too far off back of camera to get face close enough to viewfinder after quick release?

A: The A7iii should fit fine on the Sachtler Ace M System Black Edition with Tripod & Mid-Level Spreader (75mm Bowl) if screwed into the back of the plate not the forward.

Q: 5. Can i use manfrotto plate to this tripod? i want to quick release to my manfrotto monopod and Glidecam HD2000!!

A: yes, plate of Manfrotto 502 or 504 will work

Q: 6. Is it possible to easily remove the tripod head for airline travel?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. Can the leg-angle be locked without the spreader? Most other brands have three angle positions for legs. I can't find a way to lock the angle without the spreader.

A: I am afraid not: The spreader clamps must be used to lock the leg positions.

Q: 8. Does this tripod work with the Nikon D5500? Do I need any other accessories to make it work?

A: You will need the appropriate Nikon quick release camera plate that will slide into the tripod and lock in place.

Q: 9. Hi, can I use this ace m fluid head on a sirui monopod?

A: We're afraid not. The head in this tripod only connects to a 75mm bowl. You will not be able to use it on a Sirui Monopod.

Q: 10. Can the head from the Sachtler Ace M be put on a different tripod base?

A: As far as i can see, Sachtler heads can do both bowl and flat base mounting

This is one of the most heavy duty pieces of equipment I own, next to the Nikon D4s in which I bought it for. I own 3-4 Tripods and none would hold the size camera safely but rest assured this one will. It was much heavier than I thought it would be but It is smooth and I love it.

I bought this set mostly for digital filmmaking. It handles up to 29lbs camera with no problem. A fully rigged RED ONE and 5D2 with cine rig have been tested out, it worked like a charm. Due to the non-spreader design, it would take a lot space when you need to reach a high angle, always sandbag it when you put it on a doorway dolly. I would say it's as good as advertised.

I'd been eyeing this tripod for over a year. I was having seriously trouble with my old Manfrotto 701HD head keeping up with the weight of my RED Scarlet, and knew I needed a suitable tripod to match. I wanted something versatile (in both height and load capacity), easy to carry around, heavy duty enough to take a beating, and with super smooth movement. I got all of that with this tripod. My first shoot with it was 4 days of B-roll all over the DFW metroplex shooting with a RED Epic in all sorts of situations (fields, construction sites, stairs, city streets, etc.) and this tripod handled it all amazingly. It was a breeze adjusting the height and/or angle of the legs, transferring the head to a dolly, and getting super smooth pans & tilts. The pan & tilt drag controls are a huge help in adjusting speed, and the counterbalance can deal with a hefty amount of weight, the legs don't stick at all when adjusting height, it's compact and sturdy enough to pick up and carry with the camera still attached, and balancing the head is quick, even in the dark. My only complaints are minor; I wish there were a better grip for locking the head onto the ball mount, because there isn't much to grab onto, so if you don't have a super tight grip, it could move if you're dealing with a slider. Also I wish the counterbalance was capable of handling a bit more weight, because I know future shoots might require an even more complicated and heavy set-up, and I want the option of supporting more weight if needed. Also the tools that attach to the tripod legs pop off constant, but it's not a big deal to just keep them in the tripod bag. Even though this is one of Manfrotto's more expensive tripods, I'd say it's 100% worth it. I've always been impressed with Manfrotto's quality and value, and I've used plenty of tripods twice as expensive that I didn't like half as much. So if you're a serious shooter in search of a heavy duty tripod, this is it!

The head is so smooth and controllable. The sticks are so very long and lightweight. I can't believe this set is so affordable. Absolutely the best product these guys put out. The balance recorder is a sweet feature. Balance your rig once, record it, replace it perfectly every time.

This is a great tripod and head. With a lightweight camera the legs open up and spread out like a spider to get you as low as a foot off the ground and still stable. Little bit of spring in this position, but stable. Also, the 509HD head is amazing. The wide head is perfect for sliders and light Jibs. The adjustable counter balance allows for smooth hands free tilts.
